Their attempts to sanitize their legacy for the modern era bore me a little bit, the whole thing of them trying to justify and claim that they didn’t actually want the giant inflatable p**** at their live shows and it was just a joke that went too far or something lol feels like an excuse for touring the country with a d*** balloon
it’s not like they really even abandoned the “frat boy” personas after Licensed like they claim either, they’re still spitting some similar s*** on Paul’s Boutique
They’re an all time great group but the clean up job of trying to force “no were actually good guys and not like other white rappers” just rubs me the wrong way even if there’s truth to it
I agree with this. Honestly I thought you were about to s*** on their discog which is why I did the first post my bad man
Hey bro actually curious, what did you think the frat boy raps were on Pauls? Cause I think all lyrics on that were years more mature than Licensed.
WELL I FIGURED OUT WHO MAKES THE CRACK; ITS THE SUCKAS WITH THE BADGES & THE BLUE JACKETS
Hey Ladies as a whole is comparable in tone, with all the s***lines. “In the corner with a good looking daughter, I dropped my drawers and said welcome back kotter”.
“I met this little cutie hopped on zootie, I liked the little cutie but I kicked her in the booty”
There’s a line from another song that always sticks out to me, I forget which song but Ad Rock says “are you experienced little girl? I wanna know what goes on in your little girl world” and I know it was probably tongue in cheek but yeah lol. There’s lines like that scattered, I don’t think the attitudes expressed toward women had really evolved yet
I’m not tryna nitpick or be on some cancel type s*** either but the way they talk about their legacy actually makes me pay more attention to these things

Good post 👍
@2words Ad Rock definitely has a Huge Ego about their legacy & it can be a bit off putting, they are a goat band but when he talks about it’s like… ok lol

I’m glad it’s not just me then, I kind of feel like a hater but the Apple TV special made me feel weird

That was not just you, the book oozes with that type of attitude as well. Also know what you mean about the film

A lot of Hey Ladies to be fair is really self-effacing and sarcastic. Like Ad-Rock literally calls himself stupid on there lmao, but the line could've still been delivered with more finesse and consideration
The "little girl world" line in 3-Minute Rule was creepy but since they're not pedophiles irl and were making a loose reference to a psychedelic rock song, I don't trip on it too much
The only line on the album that really sticks out sorely to me would be the transphobic bit at the beginning of B-Boy Bouillabaisse
