About 20 hours or so into Octopath 0 and finished up the main three storylines. Story has been surprisingly pretty decent because it's not juggling eight different stories at the same time. While it's nice that the story follows your MC, them being silent is pretty lame. Normally I don't have many issues with this, but there are some pretty big events that happen and your character just nods their head or some s***.

I will say though, I am not seeing why people are calling this a masterpiece. It's good, don't get me wrong, but something is not clicking for me. Combat early on is a slog because SP and gear costs are so high, characters don't have many AOE skills, and oddly, the game itself is still incredibly easy. I haven't upgraded anyone besides my MC and I'm steamrolling everything. Also, being limited to the standard 8 jobs with no secret/advanced jobs blows.

Pretty sure I'm just getting into the real meat of the game now, so we'll see if my thoughts change, but so far, these reviewers smoking some good s*** if this is a masterpiece lol. Still enjoying the game, but I can only play in like 1-3 hour sessions because I just do not feel like playing anymore. Normally I'm tapped in with any JRPG I'm playing, but def not the case with this one.

Edit: it appears the story picks up around where I’m at, but we shall see

Put a bit more time into the game and it's gotten a lot better. Opened up in just about every way so I'm having a good time playing

The home rebuilding storyline was actually really solid. Looking forward to seeing the others.

I have heard P5X is a pretty good game. It's surprisingly high quality, but it is a gacha at the end of the day. Just an easy way for them to get consistent money so I guess I can't be too surprised he's on there lol

Finished up Octopath 0's true ending. Very good game. Really need them to stick with this formula going forward in terms of the story as it's considerably better than the standard 8 different travelers' stories, though can't really see that happening since this was a mobile game lol.

Honestly i think their struggle is in losing Toriyama and Sugiyama since the announcement. 2/3 of the cour DQ dudes are gone.

Granted, Toriyama wasnt AS involved in recent entires as he was the early entries. He only designs the main party, and the main antagonists. The rest of the key art is done by Bird Studio (Toriyama’s art studio with artists trained to imitate his art style).

However i still imagine theres a little struggle with this being the 1st core game in the franchise that doesnt have the lead artist and lead composer.

There’s also the fact that Yuji Horii has stated that he wants this to a game that honors his 2 friends. So i imagine theres a bit of perfectionism with this game going on. Wanting it to be flawless, because of it’s significance.

Personally i dont think it’ll get fully revealed this year. I think theyll show off remakes for the Zenithian trilogy, MAYBE a remake of DQ8(they’re clearly planning on remaking the whole series). A spinoff like DQ Mystery Dungeon or something. And i think we’ll just get a small update on DQ12. Maybe a character design reveal, and a general release window.
