reminds me so much of Licorice Pizza.
but better
but better
i won't say better, or rate either overall. i will say Sean Baker is like that fight you go looking for drunk at a bar, only to get your s*** rocked because you knew deep down, you needed to get your s*** rocked. but it needed to be organic. it needed to have feeling.
Licorice Pizza was a different experience i'd say. it was also a fight. but it was that passive aggressive s***. it was like why won't you just say it type of fight.
but yeah the endings of both movies confused me.
both movies left me questioning why i was rooting for these relationships to work. i don't want to answer nor do i want the answer to that question so like honestly, thank God for movies.

lmao you know what, let me actually say what it's like.
it's like you know how we've been bashed over the head repeatedly since we were like 3 years old about how a story must go. there's a protagonist and antagonist and you support the protagonist and the protagonist always wins. and we watch it over and over again through all the stories our whole life.
and now we got that format again and it's a f***ing pedophile as the protagonist lol.
crazy ass subversion:
you want him to win by merit of him being the protagonist but at every waking second your morals are like are you out of your f***ing mind? and the whole movie is the experience of you simultaneously swinging back and forth between those two experiences and then it ends.
and your brain and everything you thought you knew about life lie on the floor in front of you. like shredded to pieces. and you gotta pick them up and make sense of life again. tough task, and mother f*** me is it a really tough task but at the end of the day it's a fun experience, you know, getting your mind blown like that.
Tangerine is cool as well
yo.. i peeped this movie yesterday, i loved it.
it was cool to see the director find his feet in Tangerine.
there were themes and other signature s*** which i caught onto, the donut shop, the climax being an explosion of characters in a small space, the walking lol, there's a lot of walking in his movies.
also i love Cindy (*just seen it's spelled Sin Dee lol) so much, she didn't deserve all that s***.
there's a weight on this one though that's been a little more hard to shake off. the tragedy of the characters kinda seeps through. i think it has a lot to do with the endings. i saw in Florida Project and Red Rocket we're left to assume how it ends for the main characters but in this one he shows what actually happens and it made me hella sad. i appreciate getting the chance to experience that feeling though lol.
i wonder what growth there is in his style and his movies in general, i don't know what it'd look like but i wanna see. he's been expanding the worlds he builds and i wanna see just how far he can push it. i'm glad he's telling the stories that he is. he's doing dope s***.
thanks for the recommend fam, this was a good ass movie.
