I don't want to sound overly critical, but just go outside.

I was just outside all earlier today. What does that have to do with intellectual curiousity though?

  • Sep 10, 2022

"It's not that deep" is just another bs excuse as many others

there's a limit to it. you live in a physical world.

EDIT: this is a good discussion btw. idk why people are getting defensive. twitter is not real life if that wasn't clear.

Taking the time to think deeply about something and living in the present are not mutually exclusive

I agree. how deeply are we thinking? hence. the phrase.

lets be honest, you think you're that deep? what type of questions are you asking

I think it scales with the situation. Obviously some things are deeper than others.

I’m partially joking when I say we should think deeply about everything, I just believe the mindset that we shouldn’t think so much can be harmful

I think we should make mental notes of things and at least lightly ponder the small stuff. Try to see the subtle nuance of things, see how things fit, compare things etc

It’s not about being deep, it’s about thinking a little deeper a little more often

describe thinking deep. what questions are we asking ourselves to think further

    Obviously depends on the situation

you are basically describing modern philosophy, that would probably be a good starting point if you’re really interested in getting into these concepts

How do mfs expect to improve at anything or make money by thinking nothing has depth lmao. Perhaps they’re getting confused with living in the present

We need to stop equating inquiry and intellectualism with misery as well. Idk where it stems from honestly. Gaining a deeper understanding of things is fun - and you can’t even do that without going out and doing new stuff inb4 “go outside” type responses

yea. I was joking a bit too. it's hard to get that across through text. what are some examples of deep thinking though?

just stay grounded tbh. not really needing to go outside. it's just a phrase. remember that you're having a conversation with other humans, etc.

I made a small list of examples in the post above. They’re not specific questions because there’s no one set of questions to ask, more so just brain habits

Basically just unraveling the nuances and pondering what it could all mean in the grand scheme of things. I wouldn’t necessarily even call it “deep” thinking. Just being observant

I just made this thread in response to the “it’s not that deep” phrase

no qualms bro. just adding my thoughts. do you.

  • Yes everything in life can have a deeper meaning but when people say that it's usually because it's not worth thinking about and that will save you some time. If you're an English teacher that wants to discuss why the curtains are blue go ahead but I hate reading too deep into simple s***. Over a***yzing everything can be exhausting and pointless for me but I get that some people enjoy it (youtube video essay culture is huge now) it's just not for me

deeper thought is a solo journey. if you want to foster that, read philosophy. making a thread deadicated to its not that deep is ironic after some pondering

I don’t think philosophy is the answer to this. Might even be overkill (philosophy is a great thing tho)

I agree that all too often people deny that things have any depth when it does

Anti-intellectualism is one the staples of ktt tho so don't expect people to agree with you here, i think it's an american thing tbh

If you're reading a book and living in the moment, you would be thinking deeply if the book lends itself to deep thought.

Thinking a bit more deeply is also kind of required to be able to live in the present for people who are stuck in worrying about the future.

I agree with you on a surface level but you didn't provide any reasoning to back up your claim. It was written like a vibe tweet tbh.
