Reddit fulfills a very specific function in the superstructure of the internet. It is the first non-social media place that the average person comes across when they have a hint of inquiry and search for deeper answers to topics that interest them, be they social or any kind (in addition to Google and YouTube search engines).

Reddit serves the purpose of being a “retaining wall” and offers the exact politically correct answer that most people are hoping to find, this keeps them distant and ignorant of getting branched off onto smaller, more decentralized forms of communication like forums, image boards, etc where thoughts considered more “erratic/radical” will be more likely to be found

This is incorrect. The fact that Reddit has subcommunities supported by larger subreddits means that there is a natural support system for EXTREMELY niche interest groups that independent forums cannot supplant

Sure the issues of corporate centralization are present but Reddit is the only place where you can find extremely niche answers to extremely niche problems through shared niche interests on an interpersonal level
