Idk bro I just don’t like how the show is trying to be progressive (which is good) but all the male love interests are white dudes

Oh gotcha. I’m used to it in media and it’s Vermont or wherever the f*** so I assumed it might be this way once I saw ur comment. When did you notice it? I’m interested cus I didn’t at all tbh

I noticed pretty much right away but honestly I’m just the type to pay attention to that stuff when I watch Romance tv/movies. And yea it’s Vermont and the schools probably a PWI but still, a lot of these PWI’s have a HUGE Asian demographic.

At the end of the day tho, it’s not real life and a show doesn’t HAVE to reflect real life to be enjoyed but personally I just don’t like when every dude the main cast ogles at is just your “average white guy/girl”. It’d be nice to have a diverse cast of male counterparts to match the main cast (which isn’t really that diverse but still).

I mean I’m a black guy who mainly is interested in black women but it’s cool to see black men in tv and film have relationships with a wide variety of races and cultures because it’s not that common. Why do white dudes get to be the only race that gets to be ogled at by all types of women?

    All I’m sayin

Average. It’s watchable but the comedy ain’t for everybody, I didn’t laugh at all through it. It’s like that SNL type comedy

I would rate it a bit better than that and I can’t stand snl. I would say give it a watch for an episode or few. They’re about 30 mins.

Also, I wouldn’t squarely call it a comedy.

Knock it off. Only one of those situations was consensual. What he did wasn’t ok to her or the other girl.

Yes I finished them all. Part of me thought of the dialogue through the series, this is stuff freshman would say or find funny. Like there has to be a balance of funny s*** without making everything a laugh. Like I watched southside recently and that is something I would squarely call a comedy. This is more story comedy? Dramaedy? Not good with categories.

Apparently it’s cleared for a second season, so I’m cool with how things were resolved and unfurled. Sherry Shepard was hilarious to me. Like that’s a character that had a lot of comedic moments, or lines. While she also had softer emotional moments with her daughter, she said a lot of funny things. Like when she checked leightons dad at the table. That dad doesn’t really have funny lines per say, but he is a character to be laughed at to me. So there are different parts where it’s funny to me.
Similar to this for me is in the latest love life hbo season, where Marcus says funny stuff at times but more frequently he’s in funny situations, like when he f***s the undergrad and the black dorm security guard gives him a disappointed look. Where as his married friend is consistantly* the funny character even tho he has a lot of series moments.

The biggest part where I unexpectedly laughed was early on when the gay kid was like my parents are visiting and they cannot know I’m gay and the whole dorm meeting groaned and someone said u might wanna change your shirt first (it said twink)

I rocked with Leighton getting dumped because her partner had clear boundaries about how she wanted to live as an out individual with another gay person, and had the emotional resolve to know she move on despite missing her partner. So that was cool. Whitney’s lesbian friend having her back when her mom visited was nice. Bela and Kimberlys stories took different trajectories respectively that I’m interested seeing going forward. All in all I rocked with it. Stakes weren’t too high and it had serious moments that it didn’t drag out too much.

    Long ass answer but
I liked it. I wouldn’t say it’s straight up comedy but it’s more like love life, romance/sex with funny beats and moments. Romcom? Lol. I would say also Whitney as a character became more funny to me in the more recent episodes in her interactions with her roommates as it seems they all got more comfortable with each other. She has the least funny moments or lines but her story and character weren’t that funny to begin with (maybe because she doesn’t have anything about her story that affects her personality that much? Not as funny as Bella, not as inexperienced and nerdy as Kim, not as posh and stuck up as leighton)

That’s what a got for ya bud

Yea I bro I share some of the same sentiments you had with characters. Leighton’s arc was my personal favorite, maybe because I just enjoy her character the most. But yea I liked how they didn’t just give her an easy out for the final two episodes, she’s gotta come to terms with who she is and embrace that.

Whitney arc was ehhhh, it ends well with her mother but I feel like she’s just kind of there for most the season and then they pair her with the black dude (forgot his name, oh it’s Canaan right?) but their dynamic is really weird and doesn’t feel organic or authentic.

Bella was cool but didn’t vibe with any of the Indian jokes, s*** really felt like her being Indian WAS the joke which is but luckily they kinda chill on that towards the second half of the season.

Kimberly was cool too but didn’t care for the Nico pairing that much and of course he has a girlfriend because why wouldn’t he! 🙄 that part was just kind of too predictable. Overall I think the actress playing her is the most skilled of the group and they definitely give her some of the best lines in the show.

Overall, I thought I would really dislike it in the beginning but it’s pretty entertaining but I feel it still needs a lot of work in the writing department. But I’d like to see how the characters grow and change over the years, I’m excited for that
