As if he wasn’t killing it already, season 3 rolls around and gandolfini takes it to unseen levels.
There will never be another performance like this
how i felt about every season (aint rewatched the show in a looooong time)
season 1 good season but definitely tonally not quite there and reads like an elevated sitcom
season 2 is good but not too memorable as you watch it. looking back it had some bangers though
season 3 is super depressing. or was it season 2?
season 4 is sopranos going hollywood and a lot of interesting things happening to the characters. one of my favorite seasons
season 5 is full on hollywood s*** and the show kinda revels in its own glory too much, feels like a slump in terms of character growth but of course things will not get better from there. easily the most overrated season
season six part one is f***ing incredible because its such a subversion of its format and the pacing of it is unparalleled
season six part two is where everything falls in its place and its my favorite season of them all. one of those seasons where you watch literal magic happening on screen. back to back to back to back all time tv episodes happening here, and in part one too btw
it would be interesting to rewatch the show now that its got so memed and i remember stuff more clearly by just seeing it so often in memes and s***
it always had a very dedicated community but it has definitely peaked when the subreddit was first popping in 2018-19 where it was just people almost exclusively quoting the show and responding with quotes thread after thread after thread

You tripping sopranos got less Hollywood as it went on
The first season is definitely the most Hollywood of them all
First 2 seasons are down right feel good/light hearted compared to the rest of the show
"Sacré bleu! Where's me mamaw?"
Tony the Michael Jordan of a******s
IWIPE MY ASS WITH YO FEELINGS!
seasons later fist thing he does when about to have a discussion with Chris about having potentially f***ed his fiance? Digs s*** off his shoe and hands Chris the s*** stick to throw in trash for him

Yeah, it's actually crazy to watch the whole thing start to finish then go straight back to season 1
Totally different tone. Look at the pilot with Tony and the ducks lmao

Carmella running outside with an Ak 47 to find meadow sneaking out the window might as well have had a laugh track “Get a load of this wacky mob family!”

theres definitely a shift when the show became more popular around the time s3-4 started coming out. in terms of tone yes the first season was still finding its footing and its probably the weakest season bar for bar
iirc my ranking was 6.2-4-6.1-3-2-5-1 but its been foreeever since i watched it

You d be surprised how different the show hits on rewatch
I caught SOOOOOOMUCH s*** I completely missed on my first rewatch from entire subplots to just funny ass character interactions

It’s def a perfect rainy day type backup plan to have when it’s been a while and there’s nothing good to watch out
something I’ll never relate to is Chris being a fan favorite character albeit he’s part of some of the most funny moments but he’s almost as despicable as Paulie with the s***
chris embodies many archetypes, at least partially, the young gun, the up and comer. the heir. the prodigal son. the prince. its easy to relate to and root for as a young man. one of the best scenes is the very first (?) episode when he tells brendan filone hes not hijacking the truck "Nobody listens to middle management anymore"
great scene also when he tells tony I REPRESENT YOU OUT THERE THIS AINT NEGOTIATION TIME THIS IS SCARFACE FINAL SCENE BAZOOKAS UNDER EACH ARM
also when adriana is helping him with his screenwriting and he goes "and how do you know what its all about? from writing down orders at the restaurant?"
Season 6 it deadass gets movie quality tier, something about how it’s shot & the writing just makes it feel different than the first 5 seasons. Can’t wait to get off work & watch it
this will probably be my 8th or 9th re watch man

Fr? Never saw that crazy of a difference except sharper picture quality on Blu Ray but the previous seasons from 4 have had the same feel

Yeah idk maybe I just got more stoned than usual so it’s hitting differently lol
I’ll never get over how GOAT S6 is, both parts
it’s truly remarkable how good each season is, but S6 just wraps it up perfectly & the writing & acting is just truly something else. Idk the end just hits diff for me
I just finished S1 and a lot of people said it was their least favorite?? This is a solid ass start
S3 had some dark moments damn

rewatching some of season 1 now and I forgot about Chris telling Paulie "its like I have no identity" and with the "the regularness of life is too hard for me" scene its easy to see him being a fan favorite. couple these moments, and more like them, with the fact that like 15 of the 20 funniest moments are with chris and you have a great character
Mf pulled up to talk s*** and die
Sylvio usually calm and collected he f***ed up losing his s*** over some Vito jokes

The way he loses his s*** when his junkie ways make him fall down the ladder and fellow cousin Tony B starts getting all of Tony’s treats and preferential treatment and Paulie tells him “now you know what I went thru”
