you're forgetting that some industries have a natural "barrier to entry", that's where the term comes from.

look at telecommunications for example- there's an incredibly high fixed cost in order to build the requisite infrastructure, but the marginal cost of connecting each person to the network is pretty cheap.

no amount of deregulation and privatization will alter that dynamic, all that ends up happening is the formation of monopolies with terrible service and routine price gouging (in this case AT&T and Verizon)

there arent that many of those

also in the uk telecom has a lot of competition

Corporate socialism is very well a real thing, like the companies mislead others saying they're for capitalism meanwhile receiving bailouts from the government

Leaving everyone else in the dust

That's just a function of capitalism. It's nothing to do with actual socialism. Socialism is people-centered.

we should be more proactive at breaking up monopolies, especially in tech like the ISPs and corporations like Facebook acquiring lots of prosperous applications like Instagram, WhatsApp, etc. to enter their exclusive ecosystem where they data harvest and sell to the highest bidder

it's funny how verizon and at&t were formed from the breakup of a monopoly too lol

Woat career and industry. Soulless type beat

I mean that’s differences in opinion

Idk any other career that makes decent money that i have any interest in. Computer science and engineering give me cancer, medicine is cool but I am not spending 10 years of my life in + 80k debt annually in med school, law is my bag but not interested in the law school route.

i feel, if we're gonna live in capitalism, why not twist and turn it into the best thing it can be, for the people, not just for the exclusive wealthy club at the top

Even 40 years ago it wasnt even like that but the rich elite worked hard to repeal regulation laws and make it what it is today

Now the only way to have power is to vote through your consumer decisions

  • sniper

i know, we're not at that point

it's what happens when capitalism is allowed to go on uncontrolled for a very long time, especially to benefit to corporations, the logical conclusion

    i agree

taht being said a lot of what you want is common sense and not stuff that needs communism

    best of luck bro

I think i'll either go into finance or convert to legal, not quite sure yet.

Yea law seems dope except top law schools in America are hell from what friends tell me. It’s definitely one of those paths that if you put your head down and power through law school etc you can come out making big bank.

agreed, in the 50s and 60s and even 70s when america was booming, pre-reagan era

taxes were higher and regulations were in place for the rich, thanks to FDR's new deal, which the right-wing gutted for decades like hawks

trickle-down economics was the best lie we were ever sold on
