I was down with Gonzalez because he’s just so damn good. But we NEED offensive help bro, OBrien will help a lot, but we’re setting Mac up to s*** the bed

Would absolutely love to hear someone make a case for why we didn’t consolidate ANY picks today, and now we’re going into Day 3 with 9 picks.

    Absolutely ridiculous.

I don’t see any problem with this. It’s easy to consolidate tomorrow or push back to next year.

There’s been 3 rounds so far and we’ve made 3 picks. Nothing wrong with that.

Day 3 players are always a total crap shoot. So if we were going to make our consolidation worthwhile it would have happened by now (using the 4ths to either get a 3rd rounder or move up one of our other picks today.

This league and it’s rules in the year 2023 are completely built around offense. The AFC is loaded with elite offenses. If you want to contend you need a good offense. And clearly Bill still doesn’t give a s*** about it. Also we have a young QB who desperately needs to have his confidence built up.

Saw him make a BS comment tonight about how most of their moves in free agency were on offense. But that totally lacks context (thinking about how s***ty they were last year as a starting point entering this season, how we lost a lot of talent in free agency on offense, how there were very few “sure things” that we signed on offense in free agency).

I don’t agree with this logic. I’m no draft a***yst so I couldn’t tell you if the third round is strong or weak this year (and I don’t think draft a***ysts know either) but it only makes sense to trade up if you have a specific player graded highly in any given area or the draft. Sometimes we take multiple 3rds. Sometimes we take none. Trading up just because we have a lot of 4ths isn’t the right logic to use. It’s about player a***ysis and valuation

I agree with that in theory, but statistically speaking I would highly assume the odds of drafting a starter/high quality player in general decrease with each pick/round that passes. So maybe they just need better scouting (because I guarantee there will be some quality players that were drafted in the 3rd that they could have moved up for).

And that still doesn’t address the question of what they do with these 9 picks they have to make tomorrow.

I feel you but I’m not bothered by it. Im not trying to take a defeatist approach but with the afc and our division as strong as it is, we’re not title contenders. So I’m all about drafting best players available. Hitting on draft picks is always the goal. Drafting for need makes more sense when you’re a SB contender. It’s hard to go wrong with drafting defensive players at critical positions, assuming they hit.

We always do this every draft but then a year later we’re not looking back going “we should have drafted for need”… whenever we look back at drafts it’s always just about getting good players or not. Just my 2 cents

I feel that, it’s a good point. I would just again go back to how critical it is to set Mac up for as much success as possible, so in that sense, even though we’re not title contenders, building the offense as a whole is a need to me that cannot be compromised.

I love the picks, but I can see why some people are questioning the strategy. That said, Mac is not that guy. I’m sorry, but even if he bounces back from last year, he’s never going to be Mahomes / Allen / Herbert. Even with weapons, Mac Jones is not a quarterback that will elevate our team. He’s a game manager. I’m okay with drafting high upside defensive players. Maybe the way to compete in our division is to slow these high powered offenses down.

Ceding the QB position in 2023 makes no sense to me. 30 years ago or maybe even 20 yes, but not today.

In regard to offense, juju and Gesicki should be higher impact than any rookie we would draft. And we just drafted 2 inside OL in the 4th round. I think people saying we didn’t do anything for mac are off base. BOB has tools to work with.

  • Apr 29, 2023

Loving the interior O Line picks.

However after looking at the stats of Ryland why tf did we draft him so early? He wasn’t even top 3 kickers on any of the lists I’m looking at and he missed a s*** ton of kicks over 40 yards.

So frustrated we didn’t get a chance to get Moody.

  • Apr 29, 2023

I know it’s a super long shot, but I would be so happy if we drafted my Bruin DTR

  • Apr 29, 2023

So instead of consolidating our 9 picks today, we added to them

  • Apr 29, 2023

Soooo happy with all these O Line picks

Think we should kick Onwenu out to tackle though. We have way too much talent inside to waste them on the bench and let Reift/Anderson play tackle unless they surprise.

I think this is bullshit. I don't trust another GM speaking about what Bill did and why he did it. That said, it's still funny. I think a more nuanced take would be that he traded with the steelers because he wanted to trade with a team who wouldn't take the guy the Patriots wanted (Gonzalez). he wanted to set the board so that he'd still have a good player to pick at #17. trading with someone who would take the guy targeted by the Pats wouldn't make sense. screwing over the Jets was just an added perk

    Agreed

He knew the jets and Steelers weren’t going corner and decided to get an extra pick
