I would absolutely give up pick 15 for Jimmy. I know that he has an injury history, but at least Jimmy can throw the ball. I donāt think we were ever in contention for one of the top guys in the draft. Unless Bill wants to sell the farm and trade up for Wilson, which I doubt, I would rather take a guy like Jameis Winston. At least we know he can sling it. There were times last year when Cam just looked broken as a quarterback. Throwing the ball downfield seemed difficult for him. He was inaccurate in the short game, which is such a big part of this offense.
I understand the thinking on Billās part, you donāt want to go into free agency with Jarrett Stidham as the only QB on your roster, but this is the equivalent of waving the white flag to me. Itās like they donāt want to try to upgrade the position. You canāt compete if you canāt pass the ball. To the point: does Cam being here entice legitimate receiving threats to play here? Do you think Kenny Golladay will trust that Cam can get him the ball?
The reason this bothers me is because thereās a concerning lack of urgency. They didnāt push very hard for Stafford. Okay, I think heās a little overrated. They could have traded for a guy like Mariota as a stop gap. Apart from Harry who is dead weight, our receivers got some separation last year. It wasnāt all on them, but yes I know theyāre not great. To me this move is just begging for another 6-7 win season.
Look I agree that Cam looked like he threw the ball poorly out there often last season, but I also thought that he had some really nice moments as well.
The big thing to me is his cap hit tho: 4.1 mil is truly the cap hit of a backup QB. There is no risk in getting Cam, only upside. To your point about Mariota, I was never a fan of getting him at all. Heās a lateral move from Cam, except he would have a 10mil cap hit and weād have to give up a draft pick to get him. Not even close to worth it imo. Stafford was insanely overpriced, so thatās a non starter. And I can see why youād be tempted to give #15 for Jimmy, but to me thatās too much when you take into account his contract too and his injury history.
However, again, itās far from over as far as getting Jimmy goes tho. Camās 4.1 mil contract in no way prevents us from going after Jimmy later on if the 49ers were inclined to move him.
Canāt believe Bill was able to trade Canon lol. Got rid of his contract and moved up in the 4th, 5th, and 6th rounds
Are the reports true that Gilmore not playing unless he makes more?
Didnāt they already give him a raise?

Giving Gilmore more after that mid season?
JONNU!
WE ARE GOING TO THE SUPERBOWL
Jonnu is 25, Godchaux is 26. These are two young FA signings. I couldn't tell ya how good these guys will be but I'm glad Bill is going and getting the guys he wants right when the bell rang and not waiting on value deals (we should get value deals too but we gotta start with our targets and that's what we did). Also good to get younger.
I obviously love Judon (love pretty much anyone on the Ravens defense)
But at the same time kinda wish we were devoting majority of our cap space to the offense because it needs way more help, and the Judon deal will be pricey. Probably will be left with 15 mil if that goes through (since Bill usually likes to keep 10-15 mil in savings)

I agree with you. There were moments last season where I thought he looked like the āoldā Cam Newton, but there were too many moments where he just looked old. I was never big on Mariota either, but I think he was a better option because heās a more viable passer. Jameis has a turnover history, but if thereās one thing this coaching staff can teach quarterbacks, itās how to take care of the ball.
I wasnāt familiar with the details of Camās contract when the news first broke. I supose this move truly doesnāt preclude us from making a real splash at QB, in the event that Jimmy becomes available. I understand the logic like I said, nobody is signing here with Jarrett Stidham as the only QB on the roster. It makes sense from that perspective. Iām still holding out hope until itās proven otherwise. Send a 2nd and Gilmore to San Francisco for Jimmy. Hopefully SF finds a QB they like, because it is very clear to me that Shanahan doesnāt care for Jimmy.

Numbers actually arent bad

it's also likely we will free up more space via something like a gilmore trade or an unexpected cut/trade or a restructured contract for someone like hightower to get their cap down.

God I hope so
Because I just about puked my guts out when I saw that we signed a db before we signed a wr

Yeah I mean thatās what Iām thinking too, but I guess we gotta see how the contract breaks down to know for sure.
He wouldāve been real nice at like 6 mil a year lol
Bourne too
