Not doing much in the off-season wasn’t that worrisome when we had Tom but this team lookin super yikes rn

I’m not trippin tho. We just had the greatest run in the sports history and had the best player of all time leave. If we have to struggle for a little it is what it is

We gotta retool the defense and get Mac some foundational pieces like Gronk and Jules that he can play with for a long time

    Ok so

    A) I am so beyond excited Malcolm (my fav player) is back and that I can wear his jersey again and it won’t be weird lol. But obviously he’s not even close to a long term solution to cb since he’s 32. But at least it’ll be super fun for me to watch the defense even if it sucks

    B) It seems each and every day we are more and more beyond f***ed based on moves happening in the afc. No matter how you slice it, Hill is just flat out one of the best players in the whole league. And I thought the Dolphins might actually be one of the few opponents we had this year that wouldn’t be too tough given Flores leaving, but now I can’t even see us beating them. And it’s frustrating cause I don’t at all get the sense this is just Bill trying to rebuild. It’s just him having done a horrible job of drafting/roster construction the last couple of years now, and we’re stuck in mediocrity.

I'm not trying to be the biggest "in bill we trust" guy but I feel like everyone is acting like 2022 is the last year the NFL will exist. if that were the case, I'd agree we're in bad shape. but if the goal is to win the maximum amount of games/super bowls in, say, the next 5 years, then it alters the way you look at things. we spent a ton in free agency last year. this year we aren't. to me it's about making the right moves not just making moves period. I'm not saying all of bill's moves are right because obviously they aren't, but he's got a better track record than 99% of all coaches to ever exist, and he's done so mainly by picking guys that fit his system and coaching them up. he's done so by stacking the middle of his roster instead of the top (depth over high end salaries).

we currently are set to have $100 million in cap space next offseason so the roster will likely look a lot different in 2023. maybe 2022 isn't our year... I don't disagree with anyone saying we don't have a SB caliber roster right now. but A) I'm going to wait until the draft is over and B) even if this is a building year, I'm okay with that because I'm not in this for 1 year only.

I totally get that perspective, but I guess my feeling is I am all about rebuilding, but I do not like sitting in mediocrity. And I just don’t get a sense of a cohesive plan the last few years (not just this year).

If you’re trying to rebuild, we should have been trading away some of our talented vets 2-3 years ago for draft assets instead of waiting until we aren’t able to get anything for them.

Now we’re stuck with an average assortment of draft picks and an ehh group of young talent already on the roster.

Yea, it is undeniable that Bill botched the Gilmore situation. We mainly treated 2020 as a bridge year meaning we didn't sign anyone nor trade for anyone of significance, and we started Cam at QB for dirt cheap. Clearly, we should have leaned into that and traded Gilmore before the season started. Coming off his DPOY, we theoretically could have landed a 1st rounder for him. Failing to capitalize on that still haunts us.

Thuney was also a franchise tag player that season. I'm less bothered by not trading him because I don't think the return on a tagged guard would have been huge, but we can throw him into the mix. Maybe we could have gotten a 3rd or 4th rounder for him, not sure.

So those are the two vets we could have/should have moved to set us up better for 2021 and beyond. Agree with you 100%.

Despite this mistake, in terms of what we should be doing right now, what I said above is still how I feel. I said "building year" but that doesn't mean tanking. Not for us... we will never tank, nor should we with Mac in his 2nd year. If we have another 10-7 season, or even if we go backwards to 8-9, that isn't the end of the world to me, because we can build on that and contend in 2023. And 2024. Etc. Plus, to reiterate, it's currently march 24th so we shouldn't judge this offseason yet when so much of it is still playing out. If we trade for DK Metcalf tomorrow then the criticisms will be silenced.

Granted, if Bill never gets us back to SB contention then the people who are hating on his lack of moves this offseason will be proven right, and that is a real possibility. Maybe he never gets us back to an AFC championship game before he retires. We'll see.

Good points. I guess part of my thinking is also tied partially to Bills age. I just don’t want to see Bill the GM make it hard for Bill the GOAT coach to close out his career on top in these final years.

I like it. I mean a trade for DK Metcalf obviously would have been more impactful but this is the level of receiver I was expecting us to trade for. An affordable guy.

2 years/12 million is cheap. I’ll take Parker at that price and hope for the best with his injury health

  • Apr 3, 2022

Solid trade. It was the bare minimum our offense needed to be competitive this year in AFC games (assuming he stays healthy).

Not a long term solution to the WR spot, so I definitely hope we still address it in the draft.

I feel you but at this point our other “big name” options are washed Julio and odell coming off another big injury

For what he’s worth Parker was a solid pickup while we continue the long term search for WR1

    Parker
    Meyers
    Bourne
    Agholor
    Henry/Smith

I don't mind this group. Should be fun.

I'm finally watching Man in the Arena bc it's on Disney+. Only on episode 2 but it's definitely good. I like how they don't shy away from the big events like the lawyer milloy trade and they have belichick clips even though he's not interviewed. I was worried maybe they wouldn't include many clips of him at all.

yea definitely seems high quality so far, enjoying it.

Just doesn’t sound right within the context of this documentary. Hard to explain, but he is someone who speaks very thoughtfully (especially in this doc) so it feels like a deliberate decision to swear a certain amount rather than something that comes off the cuff each time he does it. And his frequency of cursing is way too high so it doesn’t even add much in the way of emphasis when he does it. It’s Nbd just an observation.

    Alright guys

Given all these trades for wr’s for 1st round picks, I think it’s time we finally do it

It’s time to trade Harry for a 1st rounder
