hmmm just relistened to the motion and i still ain't hearing it
but if you're sayin the first few seconds of lord i know is 40-esque then i'll take your word for it lol i don't really know the intricacies of his style like that
i caught myself thinking “it’s not me it’s you” lmao but yeah it isn’t anything like odee drake influenced or anything
idk, it checks off a bunch of boxes as to what this SHOULD sound like, but it really it feels like Cudi pulled all of his trite hums and lonelyisms out of a hat for each song. His music is not a blanket in the way it was for me when I was 16, its merely a recipe drawn out over a bunch of trap and alternative beats.
Production is great, Cudi's presence is upfront, but from a progression perspective he sounds hallow, and doesn't go where I know he can. What makes Cudi great to me is that the idea of him being lonely worked best as an element of his overall style instead of THE theme of each song, even if it's what made him. You just needed a line or two to really stick out, "a little bit off I am I am I am, "day and night I toss and turn". It didn't slow down the momentum of songs that were ultimately versatile and upbeat. This just over-saturates everything that he sees his fanbase latch onto and as a result he loses touch of the entire painting at large.
Some songs are nice and sentimental though, but I guess im getting older
i was not sure about trap cudi at first, but then it hit me
i've been wanting trap cudi ever since father stretch my hands pt.1
n he gave it us on this albem
Only made it halfway through on my way to work but yea this nice
Another Day, Dive and Show Out the standouts so far, can’t wait to check the rest later
It do feel like this is missing that SUPER fire track like the first 2 had
Motm 2 had marijuana, mojo so dope etc
Motm 1 pursuit of happiness, make her say etc
I think it’s a consequence of modern production no one makes beats like those any more 😭
from what i’ve seen i’d say about 90% of the people on this thread have liked it so far so by ktt standards that must mean it’s a classic
yea altho the "sounds like travis scott" argument still bothers me
the only thing i would attribute to travis here are his adlibs but other than that cudi doing cudi over more modern call it "trap" production
but guess you really can't blame ppl tho lots of younger people came up with that travis sound so they associate it with him ig
Great album. Cudi albums always sound 10x better a year later too
Yeah niggas gonna have to let this s*** marinate.
the first half was jarring on first listen but it has grown on me a lot. it's pretty travis-y yeah but he does that psychedelic space trap sound complete justice.

It seems like a fair assessment. I think the sound is more matured than trite, though. In the same way you’ve aged and see Cudi’s music as less of a crutch, so has Cudi!
I think the album feels high quality. In the sense of production and sound. It is crisp — as in, it’s not an inherently bad project in any way. As a result, maybe it’ll just need to grow on you a bit?
People thought Cudi was really out of the top 3 just a few years ago. Hope they are eating their f***ing words
love you chip
Love you too
I feel too many people had this expectation to be like previous MOTMs or PPDS in a sense. But the reality is Cudi all along wanted this album to be more celebratory. This lives up to the MOTM name in its own right.

i don’t blame him but
This funny asl
He was right tho
It do feel like this is missing that SUPER fire track like the first 2 had

Nah this has Sept 16 and Lovin’ Me to hold me down as those standout tracks
Not feeling this on first listen
Guy in this thread had a point earlier when he thought Travis was on here, first half sounds like tracks he'd make. Wanted a chill album to trip to and this just isn't it...
It's like when the quiet guy tries to be "turnt" but it's not hitting like that
This nigga Cudi really made a Skepta and Pop Smoke feature work
S*** went harder on 2nd listen
if y'all had to pick ONE song from this to put on a best of 2020 list what would it be?
can't
It do feel like this is missing that SUPER fire track like the first 2 had

Lovin me is pretty standout but I get what you're saying
Not feeling this on first listen

Definitely thought Travis was on a song earlier

I hear you, its not bad but I don't see myself really sinking my teeth into this after this post-release honeymoon phase. I say trite over matured because this is just Cudi playing with a bigger budget. All of the lush synths and trap drums are nothing he couldn't have been doing since 2011, he was just so hellbent on either self-producing or keeping "the team" intact.
The thing is I dont even blame him. He's going to get all the credit due that travis basically branded himself off of. Cudi can do MSG off of this album easily.
but I dont think any of this has made for better SONGS, I just think Cudi wanted to approach this with the same visceral edge that has driven pop-rap for the past 3 years.
Only made it halfway through on my way to work but yea this nice

You're gonna be in for a big big treat
