Tried to reply to your post in the other thread but you deleted so I'm just copying/pasting
You make interesting points except for "yet no amazing records or hits to really show for it"
Just strongly disagree with this lmao
Off top I can give you:
See You Again
IFHY
Earfquake
Bimmer
New Magic Wand
I Think
Boredom
F***ing Young
911/Mr. Lonely
A Boy is a Gun
Wusyaname
Sweet/I Thought You Wanted to Dance
Potato Salad
As some of his hit songs, some of which came out years ago and are still very popular. "Amazing" is subjective, and I don't really care much for Igor, but I feel most people will say that is probably his biggest album that the general public really likes alot.
I like most of these songs but objectively speaking he has three songs that have cracked the top 10 on the charts (2 from Chromakopia) and only two songs that have over a billion streams on Spotify
Hit is a strong word

Son most of these songs are multi-platinum and still get played today despite being 5+ years old. If that doesn't constitute a hit anymore then I just don't know what does lmao

only 2 songs over a billion streams lmao basically underground

Mr Lonely & New Magic Wand are 2× Platinum & I just picked those 2 at random
He is edgy like a lot of his audience which includes people on here. They want the success he has so emulating his edginess in the chance of one day their talentless carcass being selected to amount to more for being "themselves" when they have no true perception of self means something to them.
He is fun artist to listen to I like some of his songs dont get me wrong but this masterpiece they think he has created only works if you are 18-23. I do appreciate his fun songs though and going a little in but truly think he would be best served making a cartoon or comedy tv show ( not loiter squad) but will a consistent plot. He is talented he produces, raps, performs, curates. However none of his albums front to back click for me
Off first few listens and still I have chromakopia up there but it eventually fades too
i’ve always thought he was terrible even tho my teens were spent during the blog era. never liked his rapping/singing voice. always felt like the songs sounded very cheap even when he wanted to be ornate. subject matter didn’t appeal.
the idea of him is better than what he actually is. i find it funny his fans often criticise other artists for being derivative or boring when his whole career he’s been derivative.
”he’s the natural successor of the lineage of Ye, Pharrell, etc. but it’s not translating the way it should be, like at all. To make matters worse it’s not like his sound needs to grow on you either it’s pretty standard alt-rap”
Flower Boy literally changed and shifted alt-rap when it dropped, how is it standard
Well, it's the standard!
Something @op nailed is that on paper Sticky should be a massive record but he has way too much extra s*** on that song to make it an everyday listen for me
but i'm also aware that the things with him that I have issue with are some of the things his core responds to the most
tyler is good as s*** snd kinda an underrated but he’s overrated as an artist. i hate when he dances like he’s malfunctioning and people are like “wowwww nobody’s close to himm”

I actually think it's the opposite: people who dislike Tyler are more conservative than they wish to admit and this is their in
Call Me If You Get Lost and now Chromakopia have been heavy in my rotation.
Call Me If You Get Lost replay ability is crazy high. I don’t know how anyone could hate on that album
Yet another thinly veiled Tyler the Creator hate thread
The thing is I don’t even hate tyler and I’m really appreciative of his lane and sound
I just don’t think he’s the artist that he’s touted up to be

ah yeah streams determine whether a song is a hit

You get it
Like Sticky is a lay up of a hit but it’s just too busy of a f***ing song to listen to on a regular basis
didnt even think about it that way but i totally agree
bra that whole era and aesthetic had niggas doing that pretty boy introspective s*** alà BROCKHAMPTON, Steve Lacy, hell even lesser known artists like Choker’s Peak albeit he definitely takes more influence from Frank Ocean more than anybody else, they cribbed his whole aesthetic from that era so much
that album was like the white yuppie entry point into alternative rap
this is a load of hooey cos peak dropped the same year as flower boy. that album isn’t that influential and the stuff it has influenced is just as bad as the original album itself
I actually think it's the opposite: people who dislike Tyler are more conservative than they wish to admit and this is their in
lol there is no all encompassing rule
I mean recently he is faux progressive
Gone downhill bad after Flower Boy. Some of the most unauthentic music I’ve ever heard
lol there is no all encompassing rule
I mean recently he is faux progressive
Interesting take. He's definitely not fauxgressive, though. The closest fauxgressive rhetoric have been in everyone agreeing with OP
