Like the thread but I read the first post thinking it was Sab since he’s actually kinda insider
@safe did it AGAIN
at this point safe literally just a legitimate journalist. We should make a safe sxn or sticky every thread
or sticky a thread with links to all his threads in the op
Do you think “commercializing” your music takes priority at certain points in an artists career?
That you might have to make your music more accessible instead of keeping the creative integrity you might have had prior to recognition?
I ask this in response to your points about a loyal fanbase; I’m aware that most fans will turn into, “I liked _ better when he was dropping _” at some point. However, is the need to make your music that way a necessity?
@safe do you think there is a way to be like Taylor or even Adele and capture a buying fanbase now? or is that only because they had strong fan bases during the buying era and because of that are able to crossover into the streaming era still performing well in that specific area?

It’s an interesting one.
Adele came up pretty close to the streaming era so I would say off that alone yes it is possible
I think some artists like K Pop artists are doing so as well
It’s hard though and only getting harder. But if you can market your music to an older, less internet savvy generation you can tap into a buying audience
Alternatively if you can market it to a fanbase who obsess about sales and charts like barbs or K Pop stans you can also tap into thay audience

That sounds very difficult. Possible, but it would be a lot of work.
I wonder how they'd market themselves to cater to that audience
Maybe release the singles to streaming and if those pop off make the album only available through pure saleas and a Tidal exclusive?
Like Ella Mai's Boo'd Up was a smash hit. In her case, she released Trip as the second single, which was a pretty decent hit as well. When the album drops, make it a tidal exclusive or they have to buy the full album to hear the rest. Maybe she could have released the 3rd single right before or the day of the album drop just to be sure. I think it might have worked. But idk. She was still new, it was her debut effort

yea that could be an answer
its tough cause the internet is such a powerful marketing tool but you couldn't really use it if that was your goal since most people who you'd reach through the internet would stream
might read this thread and start rapping I trust safe too much i know their advice won't let me down

how do you know all this stuff? I feel like one time you said you study it in college but I can't remember. That must've been earlier this summer.
Are you planning to be an artist yourself?
