this is just an unresearched thought so dont hate on me please, just throwing it out there
im happy to see a big infrastructure bill making its way slowly through the process rn but it's nowhere close to enough
we industrialized and built up our cities so f***ing long ago now, none of it is ever gonna be anywhere close to as nice as other big ass cities around the world
dubai built their s*** from the ground up in a f***ing desert. i know western USA has loads of environmental obstacles like water acces and a s*** load more. but i still think its what we should be doing
biggest public works project in the country's history needs to happen. build some incredible, massive cities with fast ass trains and good public transportation and help people spread out some more. don't build the city first and then shove highways into it like we did already (cus we had no other choice, i know)
chicago had the most innovative elevated train system when it started. half the time on there now i just accept that i might die from a fire or someshit lmao
im an idiot and this is a broad, not well thought-out idea but i dont really see any other way to compete with other countries going forward if we don't completely revamp our infrastructure. and you can't fix NYC's subway or Chicago's L. literally impossible. they can't shut them each down for 5 years while they make the necessary changes
give the guys at google some acid and let them come up with a dope design with lots of ways to walk through the whole city. not focused on cars but have lots of public transportation. its insane that u can go to europe where the cities were built so f***ing long ago but they just didn't decide to invade them with massive streets and highways, and instead got good public infrastructure to help people get where they need to
we're about to spend 3 trillion dollars and achieve the bare minimum
I like your vision but this ain't it chief.
Isn’t that essentially just Las Vegas? It’s a big ass city in the middle of nowhere with a desert climate
Too late to fix it IMO
Should've been done 30 years ago
Taking into account the interstate is a huge reason why we have climate change today is such a fat L
Infastructure is a huge reason why China is beating the US
Old f***ing decrepit donkeys that's what the US is
Such an individualistic decision to decide to make cars as the only form of transportation, just wholly pushes it onto the consumer

yep
i dont see any solution other than to build like 5 mega cities out west
Who gon pay for that. You?
im already paying for a 20 trillion dollar deficit so cant say i really care if they add 20 more to it
@Gulpin Have you ever visited El Paso? It's pretty much everything your describing. Maybe San Antonio too.

sadly haven't. thats great to hear though
only real cities ive lived in are chicago and columbus (ohio). columbus is ten times more pitiful than chicago too. theres just a handful of busses and thats f***ing it
we just gotta get people out of these cities that are literally segregated by infrastructure. i know people are already asking how to pay for this and i have no answer other than to move away from capitalism. but we need real incentives to move to better cities like free housing as a start.
but i already know if we do what i said and have some billionaires draw up beautiful plans, even if it should work in theory, people are just gonna buy up all the properties en masse and rent em out for crazy prices since the place will be nice and beautiful
idk im just ranting honestly im sorry for the long jumbled posts
More accurate to compare Dubai to… something like Las Vegas tbh bro.
If you’re looking at populating the west with cities like that, it’ll be a tall order.

yeah im just spitballing ideas sorry for the rants
its just that vegas is still catered to tourists with a lot of f***ing money to blow. im talking genuine cities meant to give people better lives, not an oasis to f*** hookers (although that s*** should be legal)
What is it about white people and manifests destiny
u right but the land is already american now, im not saying invade native reservations
in a perfect world this would be intended to help the people america has f***ed over already, not like the only-white people who got to benefit from the first westward expansion/land grant s***

I may be ignorant but I’m sure a lot of land out west is Reservations and they aren’t even the pieces of land.
Other ares just have horrible environments.
Most of the major cities in California are only major cause that’s where they built the railroad tracks.
Speaking from a standing point of a Californian, you can’t really live out in the desert. People already complain when the Central Valley hits 110 degrees I can’t imagine being in the Mojave during peak season.

yeah ur completely right
idk maybe this is the worst idea of all time lmao, if they can't get water its a lost cause
How about... We fix the s*** we already have? It's crazy how many middle American cities have dog s*** infrastructure, and not just the hoods but middle class neighborhoods too. we also need to do so without displacing poor folks as well
