you could compromise and buy a bootleg pressed in eastern Europe for the same price, i can't guarantee you it'll sound good though

Makes no sense to buy most mass produced albums on Vinyl on release day. They price gauge the s*** out of them and most people buying Adele or Taylor swift on vinyl don't even have a working record player. They will be on sale somewhere at some point.

Smaller musicians should just go the Mach Hommy/ Roc Marci route anyway. Make less, price higher. Customer may have to cough up a bit more but it's a win win. Artist gets more money and customer ends up with a record worth $150+ that they payed $60 for.

the Griselda way of putting out albums is a s*** storm i dont even wanna get into. a majority of the people who buy those albums are looking to flip, and they sell out instantly because of that

i'd say it was reasonable to get in like 10 years ago, which is when i started collecting. nowadays with all the bullshit variants, artificial scarcity for certain albums, it really isn't worth it

vinyl sound quality is amazing though

Prices for albums are too high for consumers, quality control on the records themselves are hit or miss, musicians(especially in the underground) are not able to meet demands due to the limited amount of record pressing plants as well as first priority favoritism for the big name artists (Adele and Taylor come to mind)

    what do yall think

How are prices too high? A vinyl record on average is between $20 and $30 today.

You only get above that really if you’re talking about rare records or double LPs and up

  • Oct 24, 2022

we only have one person to blame and thats adele

i believe the aftermarket and "limited edition" albums have caused a lot of artificial scarcity.

for example, Igor and Isolation have been in and out of circulation countless times...mind you they're not repressed, they're reissued with the same lacquers, same everything. once people start paying $50-$60 on the aftermarket, they put the next batch out

"limited edition" vinyl is a joke to me. i've seen some albums/singles from RSD that are limited to 40,000 copies that sell for a s*** ton of money. most recently with Taylor, her past couple of albums have had "limited" quantiles, only to end up being the same price as the standard edition

  • i basically only buy old dub and roots reggae vinyls these days so doesn’t really impact me much

The latter approach is terrible because it’s just a feeding ground for resellers.

Niggas see something is “limited” and immediately buy multiple copies with the only intention being to flip them for profit.

Limited vinyl runs will always be s***ty (unless the artist is smaller and can only afford a certain number of copies pressed)

Yeah I agree the “limited edition” s*** has to stop, mostly because some artists will finesse and say something is “limited” initially, only for that same pressing to show up at various retailers months down the line.

Also, I don’t think vinyl should ever be limited to one pressing or a certain number of copies (unless the artist is financially restricted to do so).

Frank is an absolute idiot for never making Blonde/Endless widely available

Frank isn't the only one. Kanye, Drake, and even Jay dont have some of their albums officially pressed on vinyl which in turn causes the bootleg market to thrive and charge the prices that they do

Def got a point. And yeah Frank would have Homer money off Vinyl alone lol I truly don’t understand artists like him that have the option to go crazy with vinyl and chose not to.

just off the top of my head I can name you from twenty to thirty releases all across the world in different genres that should be reissued or released on wax for the first time. all could use reintroduction, some marketing, direction and management. reach out to old musicians, make calls for compilations, maybe fix up old bad deals and uncertain agreements. thats music industry and music management, and thats what all these major labels should be focusing on top of their work

respect to Taylor Swift and them, and of course its not their fault per se, but f***ing stop being greedy man !!!!
