Monthly listeners isn't a useful stat and even the labels don't care about it. Based on your last sentence it seems like you don't understand what the stat actually means

I understand exactly what the stat means.
The fact that the longest running #1 monthly listened to artist as well as the artist with the most songs over a billion streams is the same person means that clearly the monthly listeners stat matters. You’re not coming anywhere near the most songs at a billion streams without at least being in the top 10 monthly listened to for a long time

you must’ve misinterpreted something to believe this
monthly listeners might not be a useful stat for pushing a certain agenda, but it is definitely a useful stat to see how many people are listening to an artist per month on Spotify

They think it’s just a coincidence that The Weeknd is the longest running artist at #1 in monthly listeners as well as the artist with the most songs over a billion streams

What do you think is the most accurate stat of how popular an artist is
How many unique listeners have listened to ONE song during a period of 28 days
Or the amount of streams you've received in a month?

If an artist is averaging 100 unique monthly listeners per month, as The Weeknd has been for about a year straight now, then that artist is pretty damn popular.
It’s not like Weeknd was #1 in monthly for like a week or two. He’s consistently been at that spot for a very long time. I’m pretty sure he has the most total months at #1 ever, going all the way back to 2015

Answer the question. I didn't ask if he's popular or not. I asked which of the two stats is the best one to use when determining how popular an artist is.

My answer is that they are both useful stats and both track different metrics.

So you won't answer the question because it would confirm that I was right.
Yep, you now realized u were wrong and that u didn't know what the stat actually meant but u are too embarrassed to admit it

I did answer, they are both useful metrics that measure different things

We all know what the stat means it’s not rocket science
How yall losing an argument and tapping out with Zack from the 6. He only half serious and not even trying
I did answer, they are both useful metrics that measure different things
Oh really, which ''different things'' is it useful for? Because 1 hot song would put an artist ahead of others who are getting 2x, 3x, 4x more streams in a month. So in which situations do u think this stat is useful?

It is very useful to gauge touring demand.
For example, let’s say that an artist had the most devoted fans in the world and had a total of 1 million fans streaming their music 50 million times per day. Pure hypothetical.
That artist won’t be able to book arena venues because there simply are not enough unique listeners to routinely fill up 20K capacity locations.

''Pure hypothetical'' example isn't helping your case. You are right with what you are saying but I asked how it's a useful stat. To answer that question you have to come up with examples that are happening.
Also, just to show how bad it is: it's ONE unique listener stream during a period of 28 days. So many of them could listen to one song and think ''yeah, this is bad, I won't listen to this artist again'' and then dip.
It also helps artists who are featured on the big Spotify pop-playlists thanks to their labels buying them a placement.
Once again, daily/weekly/monthly streams are more useful to gauge how popular an artist is.
We all know Weeknd is one of the most popular artists in the world and rightly so. But to see just how popular he is, you have to see how many monthly streams he is getting. The labels get paid by streams, not unique listeners.

The Weeknd has been the longest running artist at #1 since 2015. He has consistently been there for nine years, it’s clearly not just people who say “oh this song is bad” and never listen again
If you look at the artists who reach #1, it’s all superstars.
This idea that anyone with a hit song can make it that high is utterly ridiculous.
Monthly listeners = how many people are listening to an artist
Total streams = how many times the music is being played overall
