The Weeknd has been the longest running artist at #1 since 2015. He has consistently been there for nine years, it’s clearly not just people who say “oh this song is bad” and never listen again
If you look at the artists who reach #1, it’s all superstars.
This idea that anyone with a hit song can make it that high is utterly ridiculous.
Monthly listeners = how many people are listening to an artist
Total streams = how many times the music is being played overall
David Guetta is currently #11 in terms of the stat 'monthly listeners'
David Guetta is #73 in terms of most streamed artists last week
There you go. ''it's utterly ridiculous'' lol...

Nice cherry pick of the only non-superstar in the entire Top 15.
Still, he’s huge in the EDM world.
Everyone else in the Top 15 are superstar level artists.
Every artist who ever hit #1 are superstar level artists, going all the way back to 2015. The only two outliers you can point to are Daddy Yankee and J Balvin who were only #1 for one month each. And I guess Khalid, who was briefly #1 for two months. But that’s 4 fluke months in a ten year period.

I explained the meaning of the stat to you. I gave you a perfect example of how it doesn't tell you the truth about popularity. Yet you refuse to listen or simply can't understand it.
It is alright to admit you were wrong, you know.. Either way, my work here is done.
How yall losing an argument and tapping out with Zack from the 6. He only half serious and not even trying
i’m like 80% certain he jacks off to the online arguments he gets in

This wasn't an ''argument'', it was me educating you on a topic you clearly don't know too much about. Wouldn't have been needed if you just did some research instead of the continued posting.
What does monthly listeners have to do with how many songs with 1B streams he has lol random

I fully understand what the stat means
It perfectly reflects popularity because it measures how wide an artist’s audience is

So it’s just a coincidence that the all time leader in monthly listeners also has the most songs with a billion streams?
The point is that monthly listeners isn’t meaningless like y’all try to argue it is. An artist can’t be on these top streamed lists without also being among the most monthly listened to artists

Yeah, just a coincidence.
Drake being the 12th on Monthly Listeners while having 1 less song over 1B than the Weeknd should tell you that.
Or Bad Bunny being 22nd while having 16 songs over 1B streams should tell you that lmao. Just look at the list, Sabrina Carpenter has two (2) songs over 1B streams and is the 7th on the monthly listeners list.
Completely unrelated.

It’s so unrelated that the guy with the most songs over a billion ever also has been the longest running artist at #1 on monthly listeners in Spotify’s history!

That's what I said. You were supposed to counter with another example that backed your theory, but you probably looked at the lists and realized you were wrong.
Having the most songs above 1B streams is a huge accomplishment. Not sure why you're so adamant on connecting that with Monthly Listeners lmao.

My example that disproves anything you say is that all of the artists in the Top 15 of monthly listeners are superstar artists, with the exception of David Guetta (who is huge in the EDM world)
If monthly listeners were truly meaningless, the top of the list would be filled with randoms or artists that aren’t that popular
Man, from his humble, low-key beginnings (I say low-key because weeknd used to be a artist where you would ask if a friend knew about him, and low-key hope not so you could put them on) to the freaking stratosphere. Really inspiring. I wonder if he ever wanted this level of success and stardom or if it was just a result of the new music/opportunities he started getting. Dude has 18 songs that have more streams than probably 80 or 90 percent of other artists entire catalogs. Not that that makes those artists any less great, but geez.

And yet it has nothing to with the amount of songs they have over 1B, which is what this thread is about lol.

1. People on here say the stat is meaningless because it doesn’t track popularity
2. Weeknd breaks the record for most songs over a billion streams, meaning his discography is popular
3. Weeknd has the cumulative total of most months at #1 on the monthly listeners list since they started tracking it back in 2015, and he also has the record for most monthly listeners in one month ever
Therefore, it’s safe to assume that monthly listeners does in fact hold some weight to how popular an artist is

You should probably make a separate thread about monthly listeners since the tweet has nothing to do with it.
Shoutout the Weeknd tho for the accomplishment! (the 18 songs over 1B streams, not the meaningless monthly listeners one)

Weeknd would not have reached 18 songs with 1 billion streams if he was never among the highest in monthly listeners. It’s impossible
He’s a legend, and one of the greatest to ever do it.
Makes me feel more at peace and inspires me literally every day when I listen to his s***.
The success couldn’t have come to a better artist
oh so @fader was posting fake info again, classic
