Releasing IYE was a mistake. It’s too similar to BL, which was at the time still very popular with both streaming audiences and radio. I always wondered how Hardest To Love could perform in the US, it would’ve been a rather bold move to release it there. Imo they should have pushed Scared To Live as a fall release, ballads are a great fit for this time of the year. Maybe even take the SNL live version as the official single.

how is IYE similar to BL lmao. still see this argument pop up. they're on the complete opposite side of the spectrum
After Hours (the song) needed a real music video, and a radio push. It was doing big numbers before the album and if there was a radio edit, i think it could have been a bigger hit than it was.
synthwave is a 2000s nuance that borrows from 80s cheese .you also can't put synth-pop and synthwave next to each other. that's like putting rap and R&B in the same alley. from the 5 max martin songs only one touches on synthwave. argument could also be made for Save Your Tears

i think they thought that BL was gonna die off sometime after the album drop so they tried to push IYE,not knowing how big BL was gonna get.
Its great now that another single gets its shine in SYT tho

You think since Save Your Tears is gonna be a smash they release one more single after? Or just wait for the next album?

Abel seems pretty optimistic about tour happening in the Summer/Fall of 21 (not happening) and mentioned that he won’t know if it will be the After Hours tour, or be a new tour for his new album he’s working on. So maybe SYT will be the last off AH and then he’ll switch into gears for this new record...
Could IYE re-enter top 10 after superbowl or am i hella reaching?
Seems like Save Your Tears will do that

#8 before the superbowl stimmy
#1 the week after
what is republic doing lmao. after Blinding Lights gigantic, organic radio run, Save Your Tears should have a much faster, payola driven first few weeks. but from the looks of it, it's rising the same way BL did.

The Weeknd has, imo, the WORST post release singles strategy. He usually pairs his singles with artsy videos that don't get a ton of views, and then they tank. In The Night, Party Monster, Secrets, In Your Eyes are all offenders of this.

yep, their management for singles is f***ing AWFUL
Seems like his management does almost everything right with him except when it comes time to push a single frustrating as f***

remember when he dropped everything on a wednesday?
Heartless could have had 2 weeks at number 1 if it dropped friday.
After Hours (song) could have debuted top 10 as well.
f***ing justin bieber has 4 songs on the radio. his last album was a fluke but he gets a ton of payola regardless
