Weeknd and Drake's relationship is always up and down and they're always beefing over nonsense. I don't think it had anything to do w/ not signing to OVO.

Also y'all know Weeknd also has a label? Guess he's a big bad evil guy too.

    Ofc it was taking advantage.

"House of Balloons was actually supposed to have more >songs than it does. I had so many records left, and then Take Care came through. “Crew Love,” “Shot for Me,” and “The Ride” were supposed to be on House of Balloons. I wanted to come out with like 14 records. I felt like “The Ride” was the last one, and it wasn’t done yet. Drake heard it and he was like, “This s***’s crazy.”

"Do you think Drake tapped you to give Take Care that feel?"

Yeah, he told me he wouldn’t be able to do the album without me. You can read it on the credits that he thanked me. I don’t know if that’s him being generous, but I gave him a lot of records. I made “Practice.”*

The weekend on giving up half an album worth of hits: "I gave up almost half of my album. It’s hard.

    https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/sex-drugs-and-rb-inside-the-weeknds-dark-twisted-fantasy-176091/

Its taking advantage cause he had the guy give up half his album of hits, when in hindsight the Weekend is clearly talented enough to have broken into the industry without Drake. He didn't care about Drakes 'shine' in as much as he wanted to make it, and at the time he couldn't be sure he would.

Whereas Drake could have used one or two songs, or even I dont know - since he knew the songs are fire and not his, let the Weeknd have them as his own song, and take a % for his verses (since likely Weeknd couldn't pay him at the time). Instead Drake took those songs for himself and put them on his album (and therefore, are not part of his masters not the Weeknd's).

Let be clear, The Weeknd agreed to it and knew what he was doing at the time. Doesn't change the fact that Drake took advantage of his position to rob the guy of his catalogue. Thats why the Weeknd called it out subtley, and why Drake (and Noah) was spreading all that BS that Take care would have still been a 'classic' without them.

You're a hopeless idiot. Someone comes with facts to dispute the blatant lie you just told and this is what you pivot to?

    Drake didnt take anything
He simply asked weeknd for demos for his album
Yall keep saying “half his album” when it was just 4 demo records drake used
If weeknd said no then he would have just said no
Drake obv paid him for the demos

The funniest part is the fact that Drake has done for other artists exactly what the Weeknd did for him with those hooks from his songs that he used on Take Care. Fall For Your Type was meant to be on Thank Me Later, Jamie Foxx heard it and asked for it and he gave it to him. I'm Single was also a Drake song until Lil Wayne asked for it.

Drake never came out to claim he was being robbed because that wasn't what was happening and Abel has since clarified what an opportunity Take Care was for him and what that entire period did for his career but people are still obsessed with painting Drake as this monster who was out to destroy his career or something when it's the complete opposite.

People will pretend thats not the case but thats effectively what happened.

The way Drake took advantage of being the bigger star to take a lot of his hits for Take Care, made him wiser not to get finessed more and sign with Drake.

Plus since never signed until around EOS release, with his buzz and a bidding war, he had enough leverage to get a good deal unlike most.

Weeknd broke it down in the Complex interview he did years ago if anyone needs source (IIRC).

He took his time signing a deal if i remember correctly. EOS dropped in late December 11' and he didnt sign with republic til fall-winter 12'

yh, I remember him mentioning a head at Universal coming down to see him whilst he was recording EOS.

One of the few to use the industry effectively. Got a bag and kept his masters.
