Hello there
Hello there
Mfer looks like he was featured on a dubstep track in 2012
Just finished listening. I’m a huge fan and The Weeknd is my favorite artist of all time.
So with that said, Goddamn this album was disappointing. He leaned way too hard into the concept of the album. He said it’s sposed to play as a radio show that plays while you’re in purgatory after dying, helping you transition to the other side. And that’s exactly how it sounds, it’s all like….elevator music. There’s no hits here except Take My Breath. This is his most different album he ever did, but that’s not necessarily a good thing in this case. I’ll have to give it a few more spins but Goddamn there’s like zero replay value here. Idk what this mf was thinking wit this one. It reminds me of one of those over the top artsy movies that stick to an aesthetic and concept too hard, to the detriment of the actual movie and storyline. Like yea you delivered exactly what you said the concept was, but did it make for a good album? Eh.
Not only are the lyrics incredibly cringe (like some 2006 emo kid s***) but he's leaning waaaaay too hard into this attempt at an 80's sound. It's like he got a sugar high off of Blinding Lights and now he's just trying too hard with the beats and whole vibe of the album. Doesn't sound like he's really on the same page as the beats, whole concept of the album was over the top weird in a bad way, riddled with crappy attempts at poetry (just a bunch of dark sounding word salad), the cover is horrendous....
And there isn't a single standout track on here in my opinion after one listen. That DUD dud of an album happens to every artist at some point and I'm afraid this is his. Hopefully on the next one he can get back on track but this one reeks of a lack of inspiration, cringe, and forcing a sound. Maybe it'll grow on me but I don't plan on going back to this one much at all
