I really love how on this album Abel really was still able to make songs about heartbreak and frustration but managed to make them upbeat and groovy, almost as a distraction from the pain hes feeling. You can still get up and groove to these jams without getting down, even though the lyrics in some of these songs are contrary to the upbeat production.
Hell maybe I been sleep and hes been doing this but it really hit me on this album
My interpretation on this is that it was purposefully done this way to further flesh out the radio concept.
On normal real life radio, you usually hear upbeat songs with a groove and easy to digest topics that you can sing along to & dance to. However, being that the Dawn FM radio station is specifically for people in purgatory making the transition from life to death, all of the songs have a darker, more eerie tone lyrically and topically, even though on a production level they sound like normal radio songs.
It’s as if this radio station is playing out entirely in the listener’s head right before they leave this earth, in the same vein as the idea that people see their entire life flash before their eyes before they pass away.
First Gasoline, now Best Friends starting to finally get my attention. All the songs I didn't initially care for are starting to be likable now..songs and albums in general really do require multiple listens
