I really loved the movie as a hardcore MJ fan but I do agree that the movie lacked depth. There were many moments that I feel were either completely skimmed over or straight up omitted. Movie did feel more of a love letter and tribute to MJ rather than a proper story of the man himself.

I think the biggest crime of the movie was there was hardly any scenes of him “geniusing”. Thriller is literally the BIGGEST and most IMPACTFUL album ever made. It was a whole ass moment that changed the entertainment industry forever. However, all we got in the movie was the scene of him at his pin board picking the song titles. Why did we only get less than 5 minutes of Quincy Jones? Why was there hardly any insight of MJ in the studio? I also think they should have done a dedicated cinematic sequence for the 1984 Grammys where he literally broke the world record for most wins in a night. All we got from that was a few seconds in a montage.

It’s even more of a shame cuz in the grand scheme of things we still don’t know a ton about his creative process in general. Damn near all of his interviews from the late 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s are just plagued with bullshit that the media wanted to focus on and his allegations.

the last time he was fully locked in creatively, even if it didn’t perform well I don’t care. Great album.

Wild that one of the most underrated pop projects of the 2020s is by one of the biggest pop stars.

I really don’t see how you can listen to Hurry Up Tomorrow all the way through and come to the conclusion that he wasn’t locked in creatively

For anyone that needs decoding of the two Gene Hackerman stories. Asia tour & final album.

He is wearing a shirt with Tina Turner's final album released in 1999 in Europe first and then in 2000 in the states (staying on brand with the Y2K)

HUT is a solid project but a little bloated. Also thought vocal production and overall musicality on Dawn was better.

Yes, because it was worked on until release, it doesn't play like a soundtrack album whatsoever

You just think that because the album was openly tied to the movie

    Been shambolic creatively since Dawn
