He dropped the ball on Climax by being resentful.. Shoulda remixed the song with his signature sound at the time and capitalised on the moment.
Climax was a big hit and the Weeknd influence was obvious.
Nah, then ppl would be saying he was copying usher and he would be bigger mad
the response bc of what he said about climax is why he doesn’t do interviews lol
So basically because he’s an idiot?
Happy for him tho. This might be his first classic since trilogy.
"“I heard ‘Climax,’ that 2012 Usher song, and was like, ‘Holy f—, that’s a Weeknd song.’ It was very flattering, and I knew I was doing something right, but I also got angry. But the older I got, I realized it’s a good thing.” (Usher declined to comment for this story.)"
“Can’t take it back, nigga”
That story about Usher is getting out of hand. I'm seeing that s*** everywhere. Abel ain't even wrong. So many artist bit his sound after trilogy he's just giving on example that stuck out to him.

i mean rolling stone acknowleged back in 2015 that climax is basically a diet weeknd song but more radio friendly,
moreover, if you go to the climax wiki page and ctrl + f and type the weeknd there's like 6 results, all of them in reviews

This would've been cool but he was still trying to be mysterious at that time and wasn't remixing other artists songs yet

he’s not wrong tho
Maybe The Weeknd was mad about Usher because he did not get credit? I mean Usher is a legend for some years now and The Weeknd still had a long way to go back in 2012+.
Never really thought about him copying The Weeknd but if I’m being honest it does not sound like any other Usher song in my opinion so I can see the point.

exactly, its literally a polar opposite of other usher songs.
i dont understand how can some people deny it
Im p sure that hes saying that In Your Eyes is a song that you dance to but it has a deeper meaning.Kinda in the vein like some of MJs and Prince's music.

I'm almost certain that's what he meant. No way in hell anyone would say there's no deeper meaning to MJ and Prince songs lmao

Yeah rereading that's what he meant 100%.People just wanna look deeper lol
deeper as in the track has a deeper meaning to it
kind of like how Prince's Cream sounds like another dime-a-dozen Prince s***song but in reality it's a self-empowerment/self-improvement anthem
