i just dont think hes as strong of a writer as he used to be

i think max martin helped him achieve a level of success he couldnt reach without him but i also believe it ultimately stunted my favorite parts of his music pre-2015

yea i guess its "not for me" anymore but i still feel like its a bit more then that

BBTM and specifically Starboy are the "pop formula but with The Weeknd's twist" while everything in the future is the refined modern pop writing and sound he's always wanted

Sometimes I wish more artists would release an album without any snippets, singles, trailers, etc.

I understand why they do it but imagine going into this album not hearing any of these songs. I know I can choose to not listen but I dont have that kind of restraint. And if they artist is putting it out they want the people to listen.

I’d say this is pretty strong writing

I tried my best to not let you go
I don't like the view from halfway down
Just promise me that it won't be so
Will I feel the impact of the ground?
I tried to be something that I'll never be
    Why waste another precious hour?
    Why waste another precious hour?
I'd rather leave somewhat of a legacy
Familiar, a thought that's so familiar

Let me close my eyes with denial
Let's end it all, the world's not far behind
So what's the point of sleep?
It's going up in flames, oh, no
    Except now, ooh
    Woah

Just hold my heartbeat close to you
Remember how it always beats for you
I'm falling at the speed of light
I'm staring at your shrinking face, don't cry
    You know my heart belongs...

say something crazy then lol we on a music forum

i like his songwriting overall in trilogy+kissland better than his post 2015 stuff

his imagery was more vivid to me, the production and sample choices was way more creative to me. the arrangment of wanderlust still feels unmatched

u can get pissy about it and agree to disagree but he took greater risks before BBTM lol

OPN was a brilliant choice but lead singles are the same old s*** man

i actually like dawn fm bc of this but im not gonna act like gasoline was a crazier first listen than life of the party (comparing for the risk they take in vocal delivery)

its still the same synth pop hes been on for most of after hours, less than zero is save your tears part 2

out of time being city pop is cool

i dont think the albums interludes makes it his riskiest, i really don't, sue me!!

Gasoline as an "opening" track is a very bold statement.
House Of Ballons might have sampled Siouxsie and The Banshees and could have been written off as a random eclectic sample.... But Gasoline is a very clear example of that this is the music he wanted to make since day one and he understands and has always had New Wave/Post Punk in his veins!

Gasoline caught me so off guard first listen but it’s grown into my favorite on that album
