    REACH (incoming MJ rant)

Quincy wasn’t even doing that much, his impact is lowkey overstated.

Q often would reject some of Michael’s stronger material (Throwing Your Life Away, Price of Fame, Fly Away) for songs by other writers, try to remove other songs Michael would write to bring in others.

for BAD specifically, Q didn’t even like Smooth Criminal, didn’t want it on the album, this caused Michael to fire him over this. This was the straw that broke the camel’s back as he had been doing other things; trying to track digital instrumentals; synths as if they were live, acoustic instruments. Losing quality often, what Q would do with his process would end up losing certain characteristics that Michael loved about his versions of the songs.

Smooth Criminal was going to be the original title track for BAD, Q also liked to stick to formula, notice how BAD has a duet with a famous older contemporary; Michael’s cousin Stevie Wonder, like Thriller had Paul McCartney. Dirty Diana was both Billie Jean and Beat It, the rock track of the album. The first single is the curve ball, the softer song, the duet, just like Thriller with The Girl is Mine. There’s the love song, which was another duet, BAD almost had more outside writers but Michael wasn’t having that.

Michael thought his contract with Q was up; they signed a 3 album deal, that Q would produce 3 records of Michael’s, Michael thought the ET storybook was that. He was ready to strike out as the Producer with John Barnes in the chair in place of Q, that did not happen. A lot of good material just sits hidden and missing in the vault, his current Estate heads, act like nothing is there.

To end this rant; this is for sure a reach as Q would later go on to s*** on Michael and lie on his name, but also still love on him at the same time. I’ll say it like this, if Q was all that, how come he couldn’t produce another Michael Jackson with all the other talent and artists he worked with? Given he’s Quincy Jones and was that guy, no?

It was Michael, go check out the unreleased tracks I mentioned, if you’re interested I can go more in depth on what BAD was like before Quincy joined the project and started working on it.

The REAL unsung hero is Bruce Swedien, may God Rest His Soul.

I agree on this and his input is miniscule. I think Don't Stop Till You Get Enough is a classic example... He is convinced that the intro string is the most important part of the song, most would agree the intro drum fill is more iconic or the spoken intro
