Shady AntI was rewatching some of his old videos.
Is it the consensus that Gasoline, and to a lesser extent, Is There Someone Else, are about his fear of still being âThe Weekndâ long after he should have left that persona behind, and the consequences?
Like, in Gasoline, heâs an old guy in a club who gets beaten to s*** by a doppelgänger (maybe the hypothetical next hot singer of the future, who takes his sound and makes it young again) as the clubâs patrons (the audience who is indifferent to him and who only want entertainment) just laugh along as he finds out they were never who he thought they were.
And in ITSE, he has taken to hiding his face with a mask, and watches as his former girl (the audience) does what they used to do with the doppelgänger, and he is reduced to looking at old slides of her (reliving his glory days)Spitting
