The gates of Heaven close at the end of the São Paulo show, not allowing him to enter, he then proceeds to be surrounded by the “angels” in Vegas during the iHeart Music Festival performance. Reaching only a few times for saving, the gates we see open in the São Paulo recap footage on his IG are heaven’s gates with him trapped in hell running to the glass banging to be let out. The gates that close at the end of the recap video are based on the Gates of Hell, a sculpture that depicts a scene from the Inferno in The Divine Comedy. Just realized it's crazy if he plans to leave the weeknd behind, Eminem just did the same thing with his last album. Interesting to me these big artists are ready to move on (in a way) from the alter egos that made them famous. It's pretty cool and I can't wait to see how it plays out, and what Abel's music will sound like after this album
