I might have to try to make a trek though; this is a 10/10 album and I want to hear him live

Wake Me Up is him wanting to spiritually be woken up after he realised he ‘didn’t die in the way that he must’ and he didn’t let go of regret.. thats why he wants someone to ‘cry for him’ like he ‘cried for them’ but he wants them to cry for him for his own salvation, he’s still the old abel… then he loses his voice.. the only saving grace he thought he had, the very thing that once made him invincible. Then comes Sao Paulo, back to indulging in the d****, sex, party life, but his vocals are purposely muffled cos he lost the thing that made him inherently him. And then.. he accepts that he’s the ‘chief of sin’ and his phantom regret and fears baptised him .. almost an awakening .. he doesn’t wanna die in this way .. he didn’t die in the way that he must. All the silver and gold only drag him deeper into the abyss. But he just gets clawed back when its time to perform. When its the opening night, he knows what he needs. He needs the mask. The one he had on his tour. He needs the d****. He never left his old self, the one who once loved him most is scared for him. He just wants us to enjoy the show, the show which is his mask. The d****. The darkness. The nihilism. He’s already given up on himself, he’s trying to claw his way back up but he can’t. He just wishes he knew how to get to the light. But at the same time, does that matter? Does the mask cover it all? Afterall, he is timeless. But the truth is, once the shows done and he’s realised he’s lost his life, he regrets LA and the lifestyle. he wants to go back to a time where his blood was pure and didn’t taste like wine. A time where his love was real and could fill a sea. Then comes big sleep. He’s wasted his time in this life. What about the afterlife? Whats next? He needs mercy. He needs to drive to tomorrow, but tomorrow isn’t promised is it? The abyss drags him down. He’s halfway there, but is halfway enough? His mother knows he’s not all bad, but does he know this? The crowd only love him through the mask. Does that matter more? What matters? The mask or inside the mask? Abel or the weeknd? Afterall, he wants heaven. But what matters most??
