this brother really promoting a trailer for the movie more than the album. he must really want everyone to watch this movie. which I understand because he NEEDS to wash the idol acting impressions away from him if he's really comitting to acting.

Just like @Campari said below you, promotion for the film is indirect promotion for the album. There will be music from the album in the trailer for the movie, and there will most likely be a tagline that reads something like “Inspired by the Brand New Album by The Weeknd” within the trailer itself

I know some times actors are considered “director dependent” and whether or not they put in a good performance relies on the director knowing how to direct them and get them in the right place.
I think Able might be one of those, tbh, at least right now.
I get the feeling acting is still very new to him, and when that’s the case, you need that gentle hand of the director helping you figure it out

I agree. If the acting doesn't resonate with this movie he'll switch to directing. He can always get side gigs or just be in vanity movies just by being the weeknd but I don't think he wants that.
