What’s the general consensus amongst his fanbase about this? I watched the movie last night and it was cool, made me want to finally listen to the album and there’s some real highs on here.

It’s pretty mixed actually. At first it was like 75% of the fan base enjoyed it. My take on it was that it’s visually pleasing, the score is great, the use of the voicemail was great but that it meanders a bit at times and takes some of the weight away from the ending where he sings to save his life basically. Also think his acting and the acting overall in the movie didn’t take away from the story that much. It’s being overblown.

I was more so referring to the album but I agree, outside of the singing to save his life + plotless plot, I don't think he was anywhere near as bad as people made it out to seem. I was going in with a terrible expectation and ready to clown but I left quite satistifed (and that's without being a huge fan).
