Mr Abyssus.. is tonight the night?
Let me ride with ya on this, what are ya thinking exactly? How do you think everything will tie in?
What Iâm thinking is that the music video world is the one weâve seen teased, the futuristic rebirth/afterlife/false paradise, all with itâs complete storyline and will finish the Weeknd as a character and introduce us to Abel maybe even.
The movie will overall have nothing to do with this theme. The movie will show Jenna (the obsessive fan) obsessing over this newest era of music but in a meta way that is like she is just a fan like us being recorded obsessing over the same music and world that will be getting from his album and music videos.
The album may be the soundtrack for the movie, but I kind of expect it to be a lot of different songs of Abelâs not just this newest album, given that Trey Edward Shultz likes to use full songs with lyrics more than instrumentals, and to capture all the emotions of this movie you will probably need a lot of the Weekndâs eras and soundsâand it would make sense because she is an obsessive fan.
Now back to Jennaâs character, what would make the fan such a powerful character would be because it would implicate us in such a meta way given that her obsession with The Weeknd and this new album/era is the exact same obsession that we have (although to different extents likely) with the exact same albums/eras, but completely caught up and current even those hers is in the movie. and had to be recorded before he actually released anything. This is what makes it so special and would make it feel so real.
This has me thinking that we will get the album a month or two before the movie so that we have time to experience it and then further feel the implications of us being just like Jenna and seeing Jenna react in similar ways to how we did.
Extrapolating further, Iâm guessing that something happens with Abel while he is performing, like he loses his voice or something, and either her image of him is broken a little or it just activates her parasitic relationship and she goes into an âoh i can help/fix himâ mindset and the movie gets weird from there.
This does make me worried that the reason we havenât gotten anything is that they havenât made a distribution deal for the movie so he doesnât want to release anything until he can be sure of the timeline.
TLDR: Music video/album narrative and movie narrative exist on parallel planes, with Jennaâs character experiencing/obsessing over the music video/album narrative being a plot tool to progress the movie plot-line further. The video that leaked of his performing is a point where these planes touch and we get a meta connection and see Abelâs new era in the over-arching movie story.
