Let’s get one thing clear, the Tim storyline this season is not just the worst of the season, it’s the worst of the whole series and is almost single-handedly the reason why this season pales in comparison to the first 2

7 episodes of this f***ing guy moping around, popping lorazepam like they’re skittles, having vague phone conversations about his exposed hedge fund scheme, & having fantasies about pulling a Chris Benoit. Every episode is the same s*** with him, rinse & repeat. The story has not moved a single f***ing inch, he’s known about the situation since literally episode 1 and he STILL HASN’T TOLD ANYONE. And he isn’t even downward spiraling either, he’s literally just on screen d***ged out of his mind 24/7 and that’s all we get. A complete and utter waste of Jason Isaacs

The score is legitimately one of the better parts of this series but idk there is something kinda hacky about feeling like u HAVE to do the gimmicky woo woo s*** every time kinda respect Mike white for not wanting to play the hits so blatantly

Alright scratch what I said earlier. Me simply saying “niggas just don’t understand the show” or “yall just want Michael bay type action” is a weak rebuttal.

The actual issue here is majority of people want to see EXTERNAL conflict. With the three friends, we see external conflict because they are arguing with each other. Rick’s storyline is an external issue because there is someone there for him to combat against. Saxon story is external because he has his conflict with Chelsea and Lochlan. Belinda VS Greg.

Pretty much every character has had conflict arise due to another character on the show, so we are able to see that back and forth. Everyone except Tim. Tim’s conflict has been entirely internal. He has a secret of what’s going on back home and hasn’t told his family. And being he hasn’t told anybody it remains internal. So when Victoria is saying “I don’t think I can continue living if we’re broke” the conflict isn’t Victoria yelling at Tim for losing money, the conflict is Tim feeling guilt knowing “bitch we are broke and now I don’t know how to tell you”.

Pipers story was also internal at first but it became external when she told her family; and now we see an external battle with her and her mom.

Some people appreciate seeing an internal battle and things being more nuanced but I believe majority rather see EXTERNAL conflict, it makes the plot move quicker. You get to see two characters going at it like Shane vs Armand. It’s entirely character driven still but the conflict is external.

It’s giving Pavlovian psychology , Tim is abusing antipsychotic medication to not think about the charges ¥ leveled against him and whenever he is reminded of it he runs toward the gun to stop hearing the Pavlovian trigger which is being reminded of (fraud charges) through his cellphone

The themes this season aren’t being explored as well as they should, the characters and their storylines just aren’t as interesting and engaging so I don’t care for how everything ends. I like Posey, Lou Wood, & Coon (was being wasted the first half of the season tho) but they don’t hold a candle to the best characters from the first 2 seasons. And certain storylines are just not hitting at all. I’ve already explained my thoughts on the Tim subplot. But even outside of that, the Belinda/Gary story is not interesting in the slightest and I don’t see any reason why either of them needed to be brought back. None of the staff or locals are engaging like they were in previous seasons. The other storylines are decent but again, they’re not hitting like they should because the character dynamics this season aren’t as good as they’ve been in the past.

This season doesn’t feel as invested in spontaneous character interactions or subtle character arcs, instead it’s “let’s just drop a gun into every storyline and let the audience speculate on who and how many people die”. This is supposed to be a character study show, with the mystery aspect being an accessory to that, but it seems like the biggest question people have on their minds going into the finale is “who’s going to die?” and not “how are these characters stories going to end?”. That should tell you 2 things: 1) once again, the characters this season aren’t as interesting & 2) this show is marketing itself wrong.

Is it gaitok vs the Russians? Belinda vs Greg? Tim murder suiciding his family? Rick vs the hotel owners? All cheap forms of suspense that don’t really say anything about culture or the human condition in any real way. This season could be saying so much more about spirituality and wellness and contrasting eastern vs western philosophies, but instead everyone’s waiting for a shootout like this is the season finale of f***ing 24. It’s simple and contrived and just flat out boring. A diminishing returns season if I ever saw one.

You cooked up a filet mignon with this one

Thank you sir. I took a step back to really see what makes Tim’s storyline different than the others. External vs Internal.

This sounds like a huge contradiction of what has been actually shown on the show.

We’ve gotten heavy spontaneous character interactions with the whole Saxon/Lochlan/Chloe/Chelsea s***

We’ve gotten heavy subtle character arcs with the three friends and even pipers character.

No, a gun hasn’t been dropped into “every” storyline. I know you’re exaggerating but at the same time you shouldn’t try and articulate your dislike of something while blatantly lying. We can’t take you serious.

  • I’m thinking next episode piper returns to her father , says something that makes him think she has to be killed to save her from poverty because she could not last in the monastery one night and Lochlan actually proves he can stay in the monastery and live in poverty but is poisoned by the suicide fruit accidentally, idk if he dies probably not unless the seeds get crushed in saxons blender

The gun thing is an exaggeration yes, but it’s also not exactly wrong either. It’s a plot device being used for cheap and unearned suspense in several of this season’s storylines. Other than that admitted exaggeration, what exactly am I lying about? Go into detail, I can’t offer a rebuttal if you refuse to elaborate other than naming certain storylines.

Even then, I’ll still try to give you my thoughts on what I mentioned. The three girlfriends & Piper’s are among the few actually good stories being told this season. The Chelsea/Chloe/Lochlan/Saxon stuff has done nothing for me, and the incest stuff in particular feels like shock factor for shock factor’s sake. The character arcs have not been as well-written this season, what I loved about season 1 & especially season 2 is that even when the writing dipped into more ridiculous territory everything still felt grounded in reality. I think season 3 has dipped far too much onto the scale of ridiculousness and over the top writing that it’s become way too much. It doesn’t feel as emotionally rewarding and investing.

But hey at the end of the day all art is subjective, and it’s my opinion. One of my biggest problems with this season as I mentioned before, is that none of the characters are as interesting as they were in previous seasons. That’s not something you can argue against because that’s just how I feel 🤷🏻‍♂️ it’s not the end of the world

Idk it just sounds like you don’t f*** wit it bro, and there’s nothing wrong with that but it’s not due to the reasons you pointed out earlier.

It can’t be “there isn’t spontaneous character interactions” because there is. But if it does nothing for you then it does nothing for you and I can’t convince you of liking it.

I just thought it was funny that you were so shocked about me liking Tim’s storyline so much. IMO it’s been the most intriguing to me. I like watching the internal battle. I don’t see it as “uhhh all he does is get high”….theres too much nuance and internal conflict going on to write it off as just that.
