I don’t get why people act like people can’t get rich with hard work tho?
Have you not ever seen a successful person. You saying every single successful person was put there to be successful including a dude who just starting seeing growth thru selling houses or sum?
Some people make it out, but most people don't despite all of their hard work. It takes hard work + opportunities + luck.
Often times the people that do make it out think "if I can do it, everybody can", but that's just survivorship bias.
Plus why should people be put in a position where they need to work 10 times harder than somebody else who was born in better circumstances, only to get a fraction of the success that the other person got in the first place? I don't think that's just.
Like I’m not tryna disagree maybe I’m just blind by capitalism too but I don’t get what you’re saying by it has us think we can be rich thru hard work etc
My great aunt came from the ghettos of Detroit and went to college and became a doctor and is very successful so it’s proven hard work can get you somewhere
1. As far as I understand economic theory (admittedly im no expert), not everyone can be rich. It's called inflation. I might be somewhat wrong but it makes sense to me that worth/value is completely relative to quantity
2. Times have changed since your great aunt. Higher population, higher cost of living, higher cost of education, and stagnant wages isn't a good mix.
Oh and by the way, your great aunt is a sample size of 1. In other words, completely anecdotally fallacious
i like the idea, but the people who will have to build this better society are being raised in the societies we have now. so how do you get such a large, coordinated shift in the thinking of people whose entire worldview is at odds with what you're talking about?
i feel like we'd need to be much more technologically advanced, basically post-scarcity, to have a realistic chance of the masses buying into this idea.
Scarcity in 2020 is artificial tho, it’s fake. We have enough food for like 10 billion people. We have more empty homes in America than homeless Americans.
Capitalism and the free market accelerates technological advancement and in turn increases the overall quality of life for society. Most of the things you take for granted and use in your daily life are a result of capitalism in some form. We would be hundreds of years behind if it wasn’t for these systems
Like y’all realize we wouldn’t be as technologically advanced or have the level of medical research if our culture was a 30 hour work week?
Nobody saying it's a 20-30hr max work week only that working that much should provide for a basic level of living.
U realize that if the buying power of minimum wage now was the same as it was in the 50s it would be over 30 dollars an hour right?
Like some people would work even more hours to make even more money, but those content with a simple life could easily survive on a part time job like they could back then. Easily raise a whole family.
But anyway all this talk is baseless if we ignoring climate driven collapse. Consuming is the root of our problem and nobody wants to consume less. So it's all gonna come crashing down sooner rather than later.
"cApiTALISM BAD"
Could take a photo just like this in the US since we have the biggest prison population. Just look at San Quentin right now. You have a point you are trying to make but it's also in your backyard.

And we'd have more than 100 years ahead of us if we didn't grow so quickly and with such abandon.
We've already passed the peak of basically every available resource and it's only downhill from here.
I'm not a troll. I ask real questions that normal people will ask and you never have any answers.
You still haven't told me what happens to luxuries in your world. I'm still waiting cus I don't want to live in a world without luxury and hundreds of millions of others don't either.
I am white and asian. That is a fact. My grandmother is full pinoy and I can private message you photos if you would like.
I have never advocated for the genocide of muslims. I advocated for the eradication of islam and all other religions along with it.
If you sat and thought about it for 5 minutes youd have your answer

jesus christ you're arrogant

Like bro u got good ideas but u could also just take 5 min to explain it to the mandem instead of looking down ur nose at him

To him, no. I know what its gonna lead to and that rabbit hole isnt worth it. He knows very well what the answer is.

You've missed the entire point of having a debate with someone while there is an audience. You aren't trying to explain it to them, or change their mind, you're trying to do that to the rest of the audience. The people itt lurking. But instead because u have beef with a handful of users every person who reads this thread with a more neutral opinion sees you as some snobby mfer. You can do better.

I am not from US. Prisons and camps isn't exactly the same thing. I am sure you understood my point which was that a communist regime as op dreams of harms more the society than a capitalist one (it has been proven).
Indeed capitalism isn't perfect but ops posts/ideas suggests going back to old dictature lmao where you hand everything to the government.

I'm not interested in having a debate over it lol. I'll explain it to someone if they genuinely want to learn. I won't debate it with someone because that's going to lead to a never ending rabbit hole that I dont have the energy for.

You're still focusing on the person instead of the audience man. I don't know how else to phrase this because I was interested in your answer to his comment and then u just said "lol kick rocks idiot". Like how else can I show u it's not about the person you're replying to but the ppl reading this thread who are interested in reading a nice back and forth discussion.

One of the most striking things to me is that so many people seem to lack the ability or the want to imagine that there is another way of organizing society than what we already have. I truly have no idea why this is, but I suspect it might be due to the strength of capitalist propaganda. Not only does it breed selfishness, meaningless material pursuits, but it allows people to think that they are somehow living outside of a system, and that the individual is the greatest unit in society. Capitalism's (and really liberalism's) focus on the individual has brainwashed society to a point where people will believe, despite all evidence to the contrary, that through hard work, a good idea or two, and simply staying on the grind that they will get rich and reach the upper strata of society, that they alone have the formula for beating the odds and overcoming all the barriers put in their way, because capitalists have allowed them to believe they have a great degree of freedom.
Any attempts to come up with an alternative to this system (namely a socialist society) are met with extreme vitriol most of the time. Not only can people not imagine that alternative, but they think so lowly of their fellow humans that they believe such a system would never work because of some b******ized idea they have of human nature. To them, the only viable system is one that pits us in direct competition with members of the same social class, working away for starvation wages for wealthy elites who allow us to maintain an illusion of freedom. Even the most shallow of research would allow one to get a good grasp of all the man made atrocities going on as a direct result of capitalism, yet most people still refuse to believe there is an alternative or any systemic injustices at work.
So my question is; Why are the people who at least seem to be aware of these injustices so willing to defend them in the name of capitalism, and why are people so incapable of imagining a better alternative?
Because my ancestors f***ed deer and lived in the forest, if they sat there imagining what the future might look like one day they would have been eaten.
Pretty sure most of the hate comes from hard workers and is aimed at people who don't work or have basic ass jobs. It's one thing to say the world sucks, anyone can do that, most people can even imagine a better world. But to build it? That takes an awful lot of grinding and a certain paradoxical neglect of macro issues.
At the end of the day, no dream of a world you could have will be any more helpful to yourself or society at large than simply learning a profitable skill and contributing to the free market incrementally and predictably. Marco change occurs slowly, not by individuals but with a slow change in the majority's opinion. Especially political change.
I share with frustrations with the world, I'm currently building a better one, but I refuse to rant about how much better it will be than our current system. I'll show you or die trying, words are cheap.

nvm dog
why do people keep blaming capitalism when the US isn’t even a fully capitalist state
literally the US is not capitalist, it has government regulations in the market and state sponsored social programs
