    Breaking news

    Fentanyl is prescribed

Yeah my mom was on it before she passed away from cancer, thanks for the reminder. Anything else you’d like to remind me of?

Some of y’all are genuinely slow.

Calling something pseudo science doesn’t make it completely untrue

I’ve done trial periods of time where I avoid phone usage vs being glued to my phone and my ADHD is exacerbated with more phone usage. I imagine I’m not the only person like this

Not gonna say that’s the sole reason for ADHD, but outside forces can definitely make it worse. Denying that is crazy

Usually avoiding phone usage comes naturally when you're doing activities that are engaging in the real world

I don't feel the urge to check my phone at all if the activity irl is stimulating enough

Feel like it's a chicken & the egg case here

hey don't you dare be your own doctor

Being your own doctor is fine but it becomes dangerous when anecdotal evidence begins to hold the same weight as peer-reviewed evidence based in statistics

I'll take my own anecdotal evidence before studies in which I have not participated

this is unironically a nuanced and valid take though but probably not for the reason you posted it

I went from taking Vyvanse 70mg to trialing Adderall XR 25mg, and I'm picking up 30mg tomorrow because my current dose was a step-down from Vyvanse

I take my medication in the morning, feel somewhat calmer after about an hour, then go about doing my work for the day without getting distracted by my thoughts racing or feeling craving to do more exciting things

I get zero motivation from Adderall, I don't get hyper, don't start talking fast, and don't twitch

People who stigmatize these medications and people who need them kinda suck

But but but meditation and drinking water bro

Honestly both have the potential to be highly impactful, especially in people with ADHD

Meditation is proven to have clinical impact on how your brain works and staying hydrated is something that a lot of people with ADHD can neglect (alongside other basic things like eating, etc)

Being medicated just helps people better carry out implementation of these routines to live a healthier lifestyle

Medication and natural ways of treating ADHD aren't mutually exclusive but a lot of people think they are

    Yeah absolutely not

Stimulants are first-line treatment for ADHD because they're the most effective treatment we have

That being said, even stimulants are relatively crude considering ADHD at its core is an executive function disorder

For example, ADHD brains are physically unable to fully conceptualize the idea of long-term reward, and this influences decision-making; all stimulants do is provide the chemicals that are associated with reward to give the affected individual a better chance to make the right decision when it comes down to it

It's a mimicry of neurotypical executive function at its best
