I go to the gym in the mornings and theres this cute receptionist and a guy that greet me. I've only had some small talk with her bt I felt like she was showing me signs of interest so I was gonna ask her her number to hang out.
My mistake was asking the guy if she "was nice like that to everybody or was taken" and he told me she was taken. And I asked the guy to keep that question between me and him. next morning I went in, it was super awkward and that was the first of a few mornings she wouldnt even look at me or say good morning so I know he opened his mouth. I should have known better because hes one of those dudes that gives off a slimy atmosphere and has a face that doesn't even look trustworthy so its kind of on me, but I didnt want to judge him too harshly
the lesson here is: never ever ask another person, man or woman, of a womans dating status. ask her yourself and let her tell you shes taken herself. at least shell know youre interested then and youll be able to get it off your chest, but if only I knew that then
so tomorrow I'm just go something l ike, "hey I think I made things awkward by asking your boy if you were taken or not. he told me you were, and now I feel like thats something I should have asked you myself, but yeah I totally respect that and didn't mean to make things weird or uncomfortable by it." this might be a bad idea, but I've noticed that when things are awkward with people for whatver reason the best move is to just to address the elephant in the room and then you can both move past it. but the guy that opened his mouth is always sitting next to her too, but I'm just gonna ignore him and speak to her

Dont even bother saying anything to her, you just gon make it more weird
another reason I'm doing this is to clear up my character: Idk what that guy told her about me. he might have said "that weird guy was asking about your break times or when you got off" or something like that. I shouldn't have given him that over me
worst thing that happens is I get banned for just being a weird guy? but I've come to terms with being okay with that. I juuts want to say it cause I want to myself

theres a chance that could happen yeah but my mind is set. I chickened out of saying something yesterday and today and hate myself for it so... sometimes you just gotta say what you want to say whataver the consequences might be you u know? obviosuly she aint gonna do a 180 and go head over heels for me but thats not what I'm hoping for

Lmao, that’s exactly what you’re hoping for.
Just leave her alone
You a weird dude

I get why you might think that but no its not thats juust not a realistic thing to expect. I don't see hwo this makes me a weird dude I'm doing it most importantly for closure on my end. I'll feel better for myself by saying it
why would you ask her coworker something like that thats very strange
well the number 1 reason is cause I thought he wouldnt just immediately open his mouth about it.
2nd, that way I'd know, if she was taken then to just avoid asking. I dont have much experience with this type thing

Don’t talk to her again. Don’t draw attention to what you asked him. Focus on your workouts. The situation will fade away over time.
Men like @op is why some gyms are introducing women only hours

I can undersgand getting fried by all the other comments but I dont see what was wrong here
if a girl seems interested the you take a chance and if she says no then thats just a no... but you wont know till you try
So op, did you ever try and hold a conversation with this girl before asking her co-worker about whether she's single?
Edit:OK, you had some small talk but that's not a full conversation
The gym notoriously isnt the time or place for this
Edit: somehow skipped over the part where she is the receptionist there
Yeah my brother its time to move on.
