His art.
"If you know anything about working with Kanye, it’s that it’s a very, very, very tough, tedious, annoying process about the samples," Pusha said. "I’ve never seen people take advantage of a situation like they do when it comes to clearing samples for this guy. I tried to hide the fact he's involved. As soon as his name comes up, it’s time to take him to the cleaners. It's almost like they know he literally doesn’t give a f*ck," the 44-year-old continued. "He’ll be like, 'Okay, well, great. They want 97 percent of the record. Give it to them! I want the record.' People come up with the most outlandish rates and numbers. It has to be a known thing throughout the industry. It has to be! He’s such a f*cking artist. He just wants what he wants, and that’s it. The end-all, be-all is to get the song."
Incredible. Ty for sharing @op
Reminds me when he paid 75K or w/e for the Whitney Houston bathroom photo

Exactly the example I thought of too.
As an artist myself, this is perhaps the biggest reason I relate with him. I know that exact feeling, where I’m like, I don’t care about the price, or these negotiations, or whatever… My soul can not sit right unless I do this exactly the way I see myself doing it.

great statement bro dis hard
If you want my honest opinion, I think samples should be free, but that’s me.

If you created original music without any sampling yourself you wouldnt think this lol
Its not your automatic right to have the right to someone elses work/art
97% of the song!!????
What the flipping f***
people always taking advantage of ye
Ever since the beginning man Ain’t s*** changed.

Nah I advocate for a free world. The song that gets the money gets the money.
Let the kids have the art.

The art is what having to pay for samples protects. Other wise people would just be ripping off other people’s art.

Yeah ok I just feel like there should be more grey area. If you’re sampling some obscure song, that should be protected, but the big songs? Let the kids have the art. Especially if they reinterpret it in a new way.

Uhhh no, sounds good but i also spent hundreds to thousands of money including time & stress to create my original music nevermind collab, licensing & copyright fees. That "let the kids have the music" sounds great but youre still making money off streams, selling bundles & selling concert tickets. Dont sound very free to me 💀💀💀
I make loop packs, sell beats, do co production & about to come out with my own original album. I never use samples or loops myself, so i can relate. Do you think this all came easy with no struggle or sweat?
I dont think free things should be charged like free mixtapes, youtube videos & free mashups, but outside of that if youre selling something that has a piece of me in it then yeah i want my work to collect for me lmao.
I also personally wouldnt take 80+ percent if someone sampled me, but thats me, the person being sampled still has the right to their song & the decisions. Dont like it? Dont sample it, which Kanye probably actually realizes & respects & why he pays the bill. Not on)y because he can afford but also because of ownership.
Youre literally only saying this because you benefit from while dont want to spend anything even though its someone else hard work + time n money spent.
S*** is incredibly selfish & disrespectful as fick & is just a cover up for free labor & self benefit.

Bro acting like the s*** just comes out of thin air lmfao
"Give it to the kids" whole you steadily profitting from streams, album/bundles sales & concert tickets + ad money s*** is just a scam and a cover up for free labor & self benefit

Didn’t he pay like a mil for the Otis sample
Motown samples still come at a price because the black artists were finessed by the white label exces who have been able to keep their heritage contracts in place decades later through mostly nepotism
It's f***ed up and makes ye even more respectable as an artist that he doesn't give a f*** about the cost and just wants the sample

Good points. I think I might have been very very wrong. I just hate the idea of money getting in the way of great art. The thought makes me sad. But I will think on what you said, I spoke in an ignorant way.
