    Yeah ok I just feel like there should be more grey area. If you’re sampling some obscure song, that should be protected, but the big songs? Let the kids have the art. Especially if they reinterpret it in a new way.

    It's f***ed up and makes ye even more respectable as an artist that he doesn't give a f*** about the cost and just wants the sample

    I’m pretty sure Ye loses money every time he drops a big album. Ever since he’s gotten ownership of his masters, there’s been a very considerable drop in sample usage. Not saying he doesn’t sample anymore but just look at JIK and Donda. A lot of original compositions on those albums

    Nah there's plenty of legal precedent that recreation of things like chord changes and basic melodies are ok

    That's called an interpolation I think, you aint gotta get those cleared like samples, but still gotta credit the original writers
