Because I was wrong. Yall did and then posted terrible responses to my point about quotables.

I want you to give me your idea of an impressive clever super technical bar.

Last week we did Lupe Fiasco. This week we will discuss Earl Sweatshirt.

Every week I will rotate between overrated and trash. I hope to have a serious discussion each week.

Earl Sweatshirt is trash for the following reasons:
    1. He has zero quotables
    2. His songwriting skills are mediocre
    3. His flow and delivery is monotonous as hell. He always comes off as if he's just talking with no energy rather than rapping.
    4. None of his albums are great and yet he's praised as some top tier rapper this decade. Never understood how anyone could claim dude has a classic verse. IDLSIDGO and Doris are decent at best with the former probably being his most personal and impressive project.
    5. For a rapper that's praised as some technical MC, he's really weak in comparison to his peers that dropped this decade.
    6. He isn't versatile at all. G Herbo did a song with him and flat out bodied him on it.

    Discuss please.

I’m gonna dispute all 6 points with just songs off of FoC.

    1. Not sure what your credentials are for quotable. Mtomb has like 4, but to keep it short “socialite reformed, alone every night” that’s a twitter bio, whether you’d use it or not.

    2. What rappers are better at songwriting to you? He’s one of the few guys that I personally would put their songwriting skills up against legends outside of rap like frank or Paul Simon.
“The wind whispered to me, "Ain't it hard?"
I wait to be the light shimmering from a star
Cognitive dissonance shattered and the necessary venom restored
As if it matters if you think it matters anymore
'Cause s*** be happening with quick results
They couldn't fathom all the damage that had to get done
Piglets in a barrel we cookin' up
Don't get a sparrow, no harrowed runics in that there tomb
And a share of deadly flowers bloom
Holler rabidly, we stare at you
    And say a prayer
Let's take it there like courier pigeon
50,000 roots, none of 'em rigid
Some of them wicked how they grew“
It sounds smooth, sticks to the point he’s trying to convey, and it has meaning on multiple levels. You don’t have to like it but it’s f***in songwriting.

    3. His voice isn’t the most dynamic but it’s uniquely his. I remember someone in a thread talking about how it comes off as effortless gymnastics. To me it just feels calm and stoner-y. I get why someone wouldnt be excited by it, but I’m into it. Plus whenever he adds any kind of extra inflection or emphasis it hits extra hard, while someone like Kendrick has to do the very most to make any kind of impact.

    4. Idls and SRS are as classic as albums from this decade can be. They both are cohesive, well crafted, and have a compelling story behind them. Great is subjective, but lots of people agree with me.

    5. Weak how? 74 has bars overlapping like an mc escher painting, he’s doing s*** I couldn’t imagine you’re favs approaching.
“Common head cold-level, minor setbacks, minor threats
To blockin' it's kinda Steph, step back
Ya s*** is not knockin' like the feds
Don't get your head cracked lackin' common sense”
“Niggas started choppin' at the road blocks
As far as tracks, we goin' off
Brought the stroganoff beef, holy war
You know it's not - unique to your boy at all It's comin' out the teeth”

    6. I’ll agree he’s not as versatile as an Andre 3000 or a Kendrick, but compare the flow of Mtomb to the flow of od to the flow of cookies and try to tell me he doesn’t at least have some range.

    Numbered and everything.

And I made solid points earlier in the thread I didn’t see you respond to. Can’t tell if youre not reading some of these posts or you’re just in denial.

    1. This isnt a a social media bio at all. Nobody would say this irl, at the barbershop, in day to day discussions, or in a serious rap discussion.

  • Dec 17, 2019

    2. From this generation? Drake kendrick cole meek rocky big sean. From people closer to his age? G herbo and kodak black for starters.

    3. Earl raps like hes talking to someone in a day to day conversation. This is not a good thing. Monotonous rappers struggle to keep peoples attention and are very offputting. It's the same reason gangstarr comes off as boring sometimes but the difference is premier is a GOAT producer and that compliments gurus terrible voice flow and delivery. Earl has nothing to compliment this.

Yeah but that alone makes Earl a factor in rap.
"internet rap isnt a real thing"
Internet rap is THE THING. Most rappers have blown up because of the internet. aka SOUNDCLOUD Rappers like Juice WRLD, Lil Pump, Lil Nas X and Post Malone who all blew up on the internet and were/are heavily involved in the internet culture.

    1. You don’t have an interesting opinion or a***ysis
    2. You think putting things in a list makes your argument stronger, it doesn’t.
    3. Earl sweatshirt may not be for you, that doesn’t mean he’s bad at songwriting lol.

maybe you shouldnt be trying to have the authoritative voice on whats trash in these threads if you cant legitimately explain your opinions. you can not like whatever you want but i dont want to see you talking about it anymore.

this whole thread you look like an idiot. you are obviously not trying to understand others' points. its not my fault you dont understand context.
Internet rappers imply rappers that originate from the internet
