This week is Vince Staples. While Freddie Gibbs is overrated, Vince Staples is honestly trash. These are the following reasons:
1. He has no rap intangibles.
2. While I admit he has a few good verses, it's hard to accept that as a solo artist he has talent. He comes off as a feature rapper: one who can have the best verse but never carry a song as the main or solo artist. He reminds me of gunplay except gunplay raps better
3. His delivery is incredibly bland
4. From a technical perspective, he does nothing special
5. No quotables at allThe last two reasons are the most important:
6. He's a gangsta rapper but it's hard to believe anything he says. Not because of his image but because of how he approaches his music. It seems like he never really lived that life when you hear him rap even though he kinda did. And since he isn't a spectacular rapper like Rick Ross or Ice Cube, it makes his music harder to get through7. I said this before on KTT. Vince Staples makes music for Crips that went to college.
Please discuss
1. He pretty substantive i always go back to listen to his albums especially FM! (its summer now for me) and BFT (still has some best production of the decade on rap album)
2. Plenty verses which really good (just look at hive for one of the cut throat verses of the decade)
3. Huh is delivery is his strongest bit extremely expressive with hella personality
4. i do agree he doesnt have most technical rhymes schemes but his expressive delivery makes up for it
5. Plenty of quotables said above
6. He used to gangbang and he move to plenty of schools around the long beach/ATL area
7. who cares most rap unless your like proper street rapper has predominant white audiencecase closed
