I actually liked my former company one. They always had the lowdown on new changes and leaked manager emails. I would be telling my managers s*** that they didn’t even know about

Reddit is charging thousands of dollars to 3rd party apps or something like that. And because the app creators won't be able to pay that much, their apps won't be available to use on reddit anymore. A lot of users are pissed because they only use those apps to browse reddit because reddit's official mobile app is s***.

    That's really the reason?

They're doing this coz they're afraid they can't use apps to browse reddit?

As if googling reddit on chrome isn't the best way to browse that s***

End this already and let me know the answers to the s*** I randomly think off

  • soapmanwun

feel like it's affecting the users more than the owners

It literally is and the people going for the subs are just the f***in nerds who been on Reddit for a decade and some change who b**** and moan about ANY kinda change Reddit makes.

Ultimately, the majority of people on Reddit now, do not care and are not impacted in a significant way by whatever change Reddit is making.

The only major benefit of the third party apps are the bots that moderators use to fight against spam/spambots. Reality is every f***in app has spambots and ads these days. The bots aren't even enough to fight against them, it is also going to require users to actually block and report them to get Reddit's autoban thing to do what it does.

Those f***in nerds at Reddit literally went on a blackout to protest in support of third party app devs who are upset that they gonna have to pay more money (THAT THEY HAVE) to use the API...shit is f***in dumb.

  • Jun 14, 2023

Been playing PSO2NGS since the launch and the third party tweaker hasn't been working for me. Went on the subreddit to see if anyone else is dealing with this, only for it to be made private.

This ban has forced me to retreat back to RuneScape as a result.

I mean aside from the fact that reddit is cringe I see users and community owners being unhappy at a company tightening the screws and limiting developer options for something thats been free from the rip just because theyre looking to corporatize more. its prob annoying when it doesn't affect you and youre just an end user but I hope it sends a message to reddit that their community isnt happy about s*** and theres still way to at least somehow organize and affect their user base, however messy that might be

If you got permabanned, download a 3rd party reddit app instead and create a new account. It will not detect the permabanned. I got pwrmabanmed and I don't even know for what lol

Higher-ups at Reddit do not give a f*** lmao reality is they have way more users, both casual and long time, who do not care about the change Reddit is making in comparison to those who do. They still gonna be making money regardless, which is why the CEO has come and said the blackout ain't gonna change anything.

So at this point the blackout is impacting users more than it is the owners of Reddit.

They already admitted Reddit isn’t even profitable and the amount they’re charging for API access is absurd.

Working in data science the Twitter API situation is bad enough, so many projects are no longer viable and there is valuable public trend a***ysis you used to be able to do on Twitter, now Reddit going down the same path.

You also don’t realize the amount of bots/spam that automod features DO catch even if you say they don’t catch them all.

... and your solution is to not organize at all/drop it as soon as you get some pushback which is some reactionary 101 s*** so youre in no better position to advise them on it

Pretty much. Thing is though they're still gonna have people using it and signing up regardless. So it really don't matter.

People still using Twitter. People still using Tumblr. People still using Facebook. People still using IG. Ultimately, when you have a platform that's main purpose is the sharing of content and information, it will always find a way to survive regardless of how users complain because information is just that important in this day and age.

Pretty much, Reddit is too big to fail because there are so many communities for so many mainstream and niche topics that people are going to continue using it. People's issues and need/want to be in the know are bigger than some third-party app devs having to pay more money for access to an API.

You have to actually do something that is going to impact their bottomline enough to get them to listen.

Again...the CEO already announced that the blackout is not impacting them enough and is more than willing to wait til it blows over. Which is going to happen whether you like it or not lol

  • Jun 14, 2023

The blackout is definitely not affecting our bottom line! We’re totally profitable!
