It's subjective either way. Anyone can critique music and state their opinion.

A lot of people on this site feel that way. Yes it’s my opinion, but I also see a lot of people here feel the same way.

Yes I know but it’s only brought up when it’s Drake’s music being criticized and I’m tired of it lol Keep the same energy for everyone.
We need a "statistics" section for you people who like to talk numbers and sales more than bout music
Believe it or not sales have way more to do with promo, marketing, how easily palatable/basic something is, etc. than the quality of the music.
Yes if something is massively popular there is probably a reason for it. Sales do not indicate quality tho. Quality indicates quality, and im sorry but there's really no objective measure of quality you can point to and say "look im right, this guy really is the best". I know its hard but thats life.
The most I'm willing to concede is that massive sales indicates that something doesn't absolutely suck.
The McDonalds argument is so played out
With streaming/albums everything is (about) the same price and same access to all. If people CHOOSE to listen to whoever selling the most, thats because theyre good.
No outside factors like price or availability. Mcdonalds is cheap and found everywhere, while some better eatery options (ex Chik Fil A) Are not.
Drake and whoever selling less are on the same platforms and for the same cost..

Gotchu
sales can be important but are not the only factor
Its ironic cause the niggas who bring up sales the most be the main ones telling people they dont go outside but when you actually do talk about music irl nobody brings up sales. Never heard it once in my 22 years
Exactly.
Insecure niggas projecting on this site all the time
S*** kinda sad
This argument would only work if the most popular music was a small fraction of the cost of the "higher caliber" music... which it's not. Nearly all albums take the same amount of your money and time to listen to. Obviously McDonalds would not be popular if high-quality filet mignon was available on every street corner for $1.99
Drake music's (along with other pop artists) gets marketed aggressively more than other acts
All music cost the same amount.
People don't eat McDonald's just cuz it's cheap lol
Marketing + addictive junk food+ availability = customers en masse
If money was the sole factor more people would eat home cooked meals since it's cheaper
They don't cuz McDonald's is avaliable everywhere, it's easier, loaded with ingredients to make the food taste good, and they use alot of marketing to attract customers (adds, campaigns, putting the burger smell in air vents, putting anti-vomit agents in food to prevent people from feeling sick after eating too much etc)

Yes playlisting doesn't work in favor of bigger artists
Steaming leveled the playing field for everyone....

Conveince is a huge factor for Mcdonalds success. But this wouldn't apply to music since they are on the SAME PLATFORM for the SAME COST. Your comparison is invalid.
It's subjective either way. Anyone can critique music and state their opinion.
Certain things in music aren't subjective
Lazy songwriting and using formulas isn't a subjective matter
there's a difference in quality between a classic jazz composition and drake singles - which has nothing to do with subjectivity but more with what is valued in music (or any art form) - usually effort + skill + creativity gets alot of praise
Relying on formulas isn't really making much effort or being very creative (for popstars most of gge time)
The debate around drake's music isn't if it's enjoyable or not (which would be subjective) but if it's good or not for such a big artists to put out (with all the resources, experience and connections he has)
That's a debate people can reach a consensus on and is totally worth having imo but y'all wanna chalk everything up to "music is subjective" to avoid it

Some artists get pushed aggressively by their marketing teams on these same streaming platforms

So your opinion = fact? You saying music isn't subjective is false. People reached a general consensus CLB > Donda but I bet that you would do anything in your power to say that is false?
