Idk why some people think they are soooo superior and hyper intelligent for being atheists. I know a guy who thinks religious people are stupid for wanting to believe in God.

Ask yourself this, isnt the idea of a benevolent, all knowing being watching over you and promising you eternal happiness in exchange for belief and prayer not a nice idea? If your Christian you also get told that Jesus died for your sins. Its a no brainer that people love God. And if you are an atheist thats cool, but dont be an annoying f*** who thinks he's above anyone else because they believe in the flying spaghetti monster. Everyone is looking for comfort and seeking answers, we all have different ways of finding these things.

I agree that atheists should stop being such pompous a******s. When I first left Christianity, I was a lil edgy (not r/Atheist edgy though lmao ) and it's really the prevailing culture in the community. I don't let my lack of belief define me tbh.

It can just be known as "God" you don't necessarily have to know everything about it to believe in it. What's got me thinking about this is just the fact people have these wells of creativity and I believe a lot of ideas must come from a source greater than the human mind.

Sure, I know what you mean

Infinite Intelligence, a law of nature like gravity that can be tapped into by the human mind

That's why Kanye can make art so well. He 'channels' it during manic phases of his bipolar disorder that expand his consciousness, and it's why some bipolar people don't take their meds

Some people naturally filter this energy out of their mind, but the gates can be opened through spiritual practices

Yea what had me thinking about all this is this book about Prince, man literally had music flow through him at all times, that's something greater than man.

n as for religion, i get why people believe in it. it provides an answer for the whole "what happens when we die?" that few other ideas about life do. the popular individualism of today certainly doesn't, which brings me also to another thing bout religion: it typically is intended to teach people that there are things larger than oneself and that teaching, in an ideal case, imports a certain amount of selflessness to a person.

when there's no answer to the problem of mortality, though, a lot of people simply turn to this idea of needing to make the most of the life they know they do have. this isn't inherently a bad idea at all, but i think a philosophy where the central idea is "i need the best for my life" leads to some selfishness instead of selflessness. and consequently i am not surprised these days that many people are selfish and carry the idea that humans are purely self-interested, therefore they should be, too.

that isn't to say that religious people are more selfless than nonreligious people, though. not everyone who's religious really cares about the actual teachings, they are more so seeking an answer to the mortality question

Athiests can be pretty annoying. Like ok you don’t believe in God what does that have to do with me.

  • Apr 5, 2020

I share similar sentiments to you OP. There could be a creator, maybe there likely even is but there's no way of knowing for sure. Religions have had some pretty good ideas as far as moralities go, and as such I plan to read all the religious texts of the biggest religions and cherry pick what I like about them to help craft a better worldview. I got nothing but time

That being said, I never really believed in Christianity that much (maybe as a kid but even then not too devout), so I naturally fell out of it when I went to college (probably even before) as I wasn't conditioned to it.

I think my dislike of Christianity in particular comes from my upbringing. My mother is a black southern conservative christian and the way her mind works because of religion just leaves me like Literally earlier today she told me she thanked God for slavery and that he "chose the right families" because we were born in the USA instead of Africa. And that Coronavirus isn't hitting the US as hard (lol) as other places because this is a Christian founded country and there's a high population of christians here. I'll probably never tell her I'm not christian just to avoid the drama unless it comes down to it lol

Yea bruh i was raised heavily Christian and dragged to 7 hour youth conventions, scared to tell anyone i wasn't Christian and literally fooled myself as a kid to believe in it just to not get criticized by family. I seen f***ed up s*** in the churches ive been too and I'll never follow an organized relgion because of it.

never needed god to tell me to try to be a good person, kinda scary to think that the only thing stopping some people from killing and stealing is because god said so.

That’s cap. Not agreeing =/= hate. Only a few people actually “hated” like saying religion is garbage. You clearly didn’t even read the discussions.

Religion one of those things I can't believe people take serious in modern times. But to each his own and allat

Idunno bout that Chief, the Baptist way of teaching I believe is literal fire and brimstone. Recently there’s been different interpretations like an essential “solitary confinement” where you’re just in darkness eternally that I’ve heard about. Your interpretation could be right though, as the text is largely interpretative for whatever reason, hence the numerous denominations.

Regardless, if he proves beyond a doubt that he real I’ll fall in line. If what the Christians are saying about the corona plague and locusts in Africa as well as Australian fire and earthquakes signaling the end times, PLEASE bring that rapture so I know it’s real. That’s even if Islam doesn’t also have a similar teaching regarding that since I’m not familiar with their religion.
