i’ve seen differing opinions regarding this technique, but it has helped me so so much when it comes to meeting my reading goals/clearing up my TBR shelf. plus, it makes for a more engaging reading experience imo
@op maybe explain what that is?

Oh. I do that for short stories but I avoid any audio when I'm reading full length novels. It's hella distracting for me.

Do you listen to like fitting audio or sumn?

Oh I did that when I read A Promised Land by Barack Obama. The audiobook is narrated by him. It works well because he puts a certain emphasis on paragraphs that my inner voice wouldn't have done. I usually speed up the vocals 1.5 or more though because all the narrators are way too slow.
It works well for some books especially when the narrator is the author and they have a beautiful charismatic voice. But, it can also backfire like I was reading some book by a female British author and not only was the narrator male but he also had possibly the most annoying British accent you can think off and it was just too distracting. 😒

just the audiobook
ik some people like to listen to instrumental music and read, but that's too distracting for me personally

the quality really does vary from book to book...or even narrator to narrator in the case of Dune

i was anti-audiobook for most of my life because i was afraid of not retaining anything by just listening, but i was wrong. it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot if you haven't already

I can't listen to an audiobook by itself. I don't know if I have some form of aphantasia but all I see in my head is either the words flowing right to left or the narrator in front of a mic reading a book to me. My level of immersion sucks lol.
I'm too distracted by semantics and semiotics and pronunciations to make a mental image whatever they're telling me.
I did this with comics, I would listen to the movie ost and try to match the track with the mood of the story I was at.

I read the Bible on shrooms and wine when I have the opportunity. But I read other books cross faded too
