I agree with this. The songwriting on Astroworld is much more well structured, but that album was going for a pop rap audience appeal so it makes sense.

Utopia’s songs are much more scattershot and undefined in their presentation.

As far as the features go, I agree with that too, and I think the difference in approach to guest artists also ties back in to what both albums set out to accomplish.

Astroworld’s features are cameos in a multiverse Marvel movie. They are there to surprise, excite, and bring in fans of those artists as well, while creating super memorable blockbuster moments on almost every song.

On Utopia, Travis is the main focus, and the features are there moreso to add certain colors or textures to songs that wouldn’t be achievable by Travis himself, without ever fully stealing the show from him.

Neither approach is better or worse in my opinion, just depends on what you’re looking for in a Travis Scott album.
