Weeknd verse on that Bad Bunny track is very meh
An artist who is on this album, Bon Iver, literally has made a career out of singing absolute nonsense lyrics in beautiful melodies and not once have I ever heard anybody complain about his lyricism.
āFor only takers, stand and take in where you are
Turn around and face it, you're adjacent to the scar
"I want mine here though"
We heard that story before (Woo, hahaha)
What you think we're taming with the towers and the oar?
You keep evading boy, you putting me flat on the floor
It's okay, you were young when you were gave it
But you stayed there
And youād expect it when we photograph our scars
Some lonely fable that we took in then right from the startā
Like none of this means anything but it doesnāt matter because how amazing he makes it sound
bon iver is not saying "absolute nonsense"
if you dont cherrypick bon iver is a really good song writer
if anything hes what travis thinks he is

Donāt get me wrong, Bon Iver is a GENIUS songwriter, Iām a massive fan of his.
But the average music listener, the same ones saying Travis doesnāt talk about anything, isnāt gonna know what any of this means:
Down along the creek
I remember something
Her, the heron hurried away
When first I breeched that last Sunday, ooh
Low moon don the yellow road
I remember something
That leaving wasn't easing all that heaving in my vines
And as certain it is evening at is now is not the time, ooh
Toiling with your blood
I remember something
In B, unrationed kissing on a night second to last
Finding both your hands as second sun came past the glass
And oh, I know it felt right and I had you in my grasp
Oh then, how we gonna cry?
'Cause it once might not mean something?
Love, a second glance, it is not something that we'll need
Honey, understand that I have been left here in the reeds
But all I'm trying to do is get my feet out from the crease
And I see you
Turn around, you're my A Team
Turn around, now you're my A Team
God damn, turn around now
You're my A Team
Full album clears
Theres a couple tracks im eh on but idk if id cut the same ones. Interesting to see it there though

For me personally everything from "I know it felt right and I had you in my grasp" down resonates and makes me think of a right person wrong time type of relationship from my past
Like I'd have to really sit down and write carefully if I was gonna a***yze entire Bon Iver verses on some rap genius type s***, but his lyrics definitely have a lot of emotion and intention behind them that you can just feel and relate to

theres even more egregious examples from bon iver too haha.
i had some complaints about travisās rapping at first (not eben just in a general substance way) but the more i listen the more im enjoying it and picking up on some pockets and s***. Its just deff different than how we usually hear him in a few ways. his writing is a lil bit all over the place but hes got some
Good moments, and deff has some creative flows. Used to hearing punchier and catchier or more melodic stuff from him than straight rapping

but to get back to what you're saying, I sort of agree but I think even a casual listener of bon iver can tell right off the bat that theres a lot more attention being paid to the writing
just from the way he says and structures things
like even with creeks theres so much emotion pouring out of that last part. i just dont think its fair to compare travis to him

This deff aint a good example
i was feeling 1-7, but Fein is one of the worst songs i've ever heard. not sure what im listening to in the 2nd of half here
Revisited Coffee Bean then played Lost Forever & the last part of Skitzo again.
Who the f*** do I have to bribe to get Travis to rap over this lowkey production more frequently
But then again I could be drunk š¤

I think the point is some artists remove meaning and just go with feeling. Doesn't make them any less of a artist. I personally don't think travis cares much about his lyrics and is more concerned with melody, flows, and sounds to evoke feeling. Thats what people get out of travis is a certain vibe and energy I think, not for lyrical content. To me and what I always liked about travis is that he's kind of surreal and creates from the imagination. Like he's always been a sort of nonsensical and surrealistic. And what I think people are missing is that its valid and doesn't make him bad.
Look how many singers do it....in the rock/heavy metal world..The critics, every album, keep re-iterating that he's not being personable enough or he has nothing meaningful to say.
I really don't understand why they single travis out for this when hes made it clear since the beginning of his career, thats not what he's about. But they keep saying that over and over again to knock him.

Thank you. Bon Iver is definitely an artist who favors feeling over meaning, that was my point in using him as an example.

I just feel like "feeling over straightforward meaning" is a spectrum, people can do it well and people can do it terribly
I said this before but I think there are a lot of parts of DBR that are actually pretty good at that
I'm just saying that its not done well on utopia. or at least im not sure what hes trying to convey or show most of the time. I don't ever feel like that listening to a bon iver project
travis scott albums always got shaky endings for people it seems like
rodeo had a good closing if apple pie is considered the ending
Ngl I feel like there's a few more questionable bars in Travs early career than now but that's just my opinion
