Let’s talk about the FACT that three 6 don’t have a single solo classic album. Where’s wu have multiple.

Never been a three 6 fan so to me I’d take wu’s discography, although I wouldn’t necessarily call it consistent. But three 6 don’t have any project touching 36 chambers, or even wu tang forever for that matter

Wu tang and their business model are one of the most iconic and copied so nah I don’t think three 6 have more influence

Why are you talking about solo projects lol this is about groups

Also Mystic Stylez is better than any Wu album

  • They're up there. Their influence is impressive. I wouldn't say they're the greatest, but it's possible to make a solid and convincing case for them.

This, plus Da Devil's Playground is without a shadow of a doubt a classic solo album.

Although I do prefer 36 Chambers to Mystic Stylez, but I also prefer Underground Vol. 1 to 36 Chambers.

Da Devil's Playground is without hesitation a classic solo album.

Three 6 pioneered the mixtape hustle that came to define 2010s hip hop let's talk about it.

Meh I mean it’s forward thinking when you consider what’s about now but 99% of people couldn’t tell you who Koopsta Knicca is. Cult classic at best. The lyrics on that s*** were non existent and that’s back when lyrics actually mattered 😂

What is a "solo" group album? Also you buggin. Three 6 Mafia catalog is outstanding when you start digging through it. Don't sleep on their contributions to more than just music, because they've been apart of shows, movies, s*** they won an Oscar.

And Wu tang and their symbol is one of the most singularly recognisable things in hip hop culture

So a record being an underground staple means it's no longer relevant? Lotta prominent mainstream artists have even SAMPLED this album, such as Chief Keef and Denzel Curry.

Lord Infamous was a phenomenal rapper, and Koop honestly had good lyrics too.

First verse is Lord. Man has bars.

One of the best storytelling joints of all time, Lord Infamous solo track

I’m general the album isn’t really known for its bars, it’s more the chanty repetitive s***. It’s not a bad album and probably their best solo album but I don’t think many here could name it let alone name it a classic. It’s not on the level of any of the albums from the first wave of wu

NWA made rap RAP. Anything cool in hiphop nwa made and they made it cool.

    ''We started this gangsta s***
and this the motherfucking thanks i get?''

    Run DMC made rap RAP

Eric B & Rakim also did this before NWA.

NWA made gangsta rap a formidable subgenre. Without them, Three 6 wouldn't exist. Paul to this day samples NWA records, "Talk Up" by Drake flipped "Dopeman".

There are def a few groups who can stake claim to having more influence than Three 6, while simultaneously dropping classic albums.

    • Run DMC
    • Beastie Boys
    • Eric B & Rakim
    • Boogie Down Productions
    • Public Enemy
    • NWA
    • Geto Boys
    • UGK

and possibly EPMD. But Three 6 had more longevity than Run DMC, who started to decline in quality in the 90s. They had a longer run than Eric B & Rakim with mostly dope music, so I'm giving them the edge, same with BDP. They're way more consistent than PE, most of PE's discog is pretty lackluster at this point. NWA were very shortlived even if they were massively influential.

Geto Boys, UGK, and Beastie Boys I really can't form an argument against them being possibly higher on the totem pole than Three 6. UGK especially are probably just as influential as them, and even influenced Three 6. I think I prefer Three 6 to UGK, narrowly, but yeah, that's about all I can think of.

no. Neither run dmc nor eric b or rakim sounds like today's rap. They are pioneers of the rap music and they are greats but eric b and rakim were too traditional even tho they were one of the best MCs of all time I dont think their attitude is shared in today's hiphop music as much as NWA's ''attitude''

NWA literally included Eazy, Dre and Ice Cube. wtf is comparing with this

So "Paid in Full" invented boom bap, and Rakim elevated rap from call-and-response, simplistic chanting, to a more complex, narrative driven, rhyme-centric style of music. Ice Cube wasn't rapping at that level in 1987, and the crew got a lot better at rapping the next year, from studying their rhyme schemes.

Run DMC birthed the sound of hardcore rap. The gritty backbone of NWA's rap style was forged by the early sounds of Run DMC's music.
