He's right but he's not gon get it because he doesn't have that layer of mainstream 30something white acceptance to their music the way Ye has songs like Stronger/Gold Digger, Wayne has Lollipop/A Milli/etc. era and beyond and Jay-Z being the rapper even your grandma knows for the past 15-20 years.

And subconsciously that's why everyone in here is clowning him

Every other category (cultural/chart hits, 10-20+ years in the game, deep back catalog quality wise, etc.) he hits.

This has to be the edgiest take in this thread

TIP had a couple years on top and you think he’s on the same level as Jay Z, Kanye, and Lil Wayne? FOH

My Love, Whatever You Like, Dead and Gone, Live Your Life, What You Know, etc. White people loved his s***

He's obviously an all-timer but his music doesn't hold up to the other 3 period. Its not just about pop approval, Kanye Wayne and Jay are THE hip-hop artists. Their personalities and art transcend music. It's not a dig at T.I to say he's not on their level

    Tip is 39.
He went to jail in 09 came home 2010.
It wasnt like time passed him by. He came out still poised to be on top of the game. He just made s***ty albums.

And I dont buy the white people angle. This has nothing to do with how much white folks recognize TI. It's about looking at his resume and impact and honestly evaluating it.

TI is TI and has made millions off of just that. Hes always in the media for some s*** he just cant parlay that into making good albums.

I like Tip but facts is facts. Hes a self proclaimed King. Always has been.

Didn't know he was that young but that speaks to how the "family man" image aged him even more. But I guess no one forced him to do that. Wild to think that he was Valee's age or younger than Big Sean rn with a show revolving around him raising 4-6 kids

As far as the white people angle those type of records and that type of acceptance is the only difference between him and the other three.

You give him a few Airplanes/Nothin On You type records 08-10 and this whole convo different

    How

That's literally the only difference between him and the other 3

He doesn't have that element of large white acceptance that the others achieved in that 07-09 era

You keep discounting the quality of his work...or lack thereof.

that’s not what he said tho dummies

  • If Clifford thinks his catalog can stand up to Jay Ye or Wayne, hes buggin.

He was better off going at Fif.

    stop exposing y'all selves

before he went to prison he absolutely was on the same level as them hence Swagga Like Us having this exact lineup

My entire point here is that that 08-09 timeframe where he was gone was when Ye/Wayne/Hov did 808s/Lollipop/Empire State/Forever Young etc. type records that solidified them with mainstream audiences. along with introducing Sean/Cudi/Nicki/Drake/Cole/etc.

I also think his lack of business acumen as a label CEO diminishes him somewhat.

He never groomed another top tier artist to blow and keep him relevant.

He was involved for Travis for that one album but that wasnt an organic match anyway.

B.O.B went pop and fizzled kinda quickly. Iggy too. Who else was there?

    Trap Muzik
    King
    Urban Legend

    are all classics

with Paper Trail being an arguable classic

    TI vs. TIP was decent

none of these are laughably bad compared to any other album from the 2000's in this conversation

But Tip made the same kinda mainstream records. He mightve been respected by the guys on Swagger Like Us and at that point he was in the conversation those guys but he never made a Vol. 2 or a Carter 3 or Graduation.

His music never shifted the culture or had a real movement behind it.

Tip was just a really good rapper. Once he stopped being that, you're done.

    This is another factor

If Yung LA didn't start doing goofy s*** (the duct tape tat and subsequent slapping out) and Dro was more consistent with his work ethic (because niggas sleep on how nice Dro is with the wordplay) he would have had them to carry him into that next generation the way Cudi and Nicki/Drake did for Wayne

BoB should have created more of a mixtape foundation before he made the Bruno/Airplanes type records his identity

TIP don't have a Stronger, Lollipop, Empire State, Forever Young, Flashing Lights, etc.

For whatever reason the other three experimented with more futuristic sounds but TIP at the time was more solidly on some hood/country s*** and understandably so bc this 07-09 period was the time where that type of production became almost the standard in rap and prior to that era niggas woulda said TIP was getting too weird or going Hollywood/pop and ironically now that's a knock on him was that he didn't go Hollywood/mainstream enough compared to the other three

    Studio albums
    I'm Serious (2001) - Average, flopped commercially
Trap Muzik (2003) - His only arguable classic
Urban Legend (2004) - Great singles, average album
King (2006) -Great singles, average album
T.I. vs. T.I.P. (2007) - Good singles, average album, was a commercial flop
Paper Trail (2008) - Pop transition, best selling album
    No Mercy (2010) - Trash
Trouble Man: Heavy Is the Head (2012) - More trash
Paperwork (2014) - Thuggas buzz sold this single, bad album
Dime Trap (2018) - Forgot this s*** even came out and so did the rest of the world

    4 to 6

you can do this to all of them except Ye who was flawless in the 00's

Wayne's tapes are arguably better than his albums and Hov has some misses

You making mad excuses for Tip lol.

Swagger Like Us is some experimental s*** production wise.

But Tip never had a solid sound. He chased whatever production trends were going at the moment.

Trap Mizik had a distinct vibe to it more so then any other album.

I thought TI v TIP was pretty consistent too

    Hovs wins outweigh his misses.

Plus he remained relevant by making other artists stars.

Wayne has more good mixtapes then Tip has albums.

    Stop it.

Ironically he put niggas on to Toomp who made "stadium status" Big Brother, Good Life, CTMN

Swagga Like Us is a posse cut that is pretty much a Paper Planes remix and NOT Flashing Lights or Stronger or Lollipop at all lol. Solo performances that reinvented what you thought you could get from that artist completely
