TI is not in the same conversation as them to me. He’s a step below but that’s not a knock he’s still an important figure to hip hop
And ironically the same things that made Ye and Wayne fall off quality wise are the same things that they're gonna s*** on TI for when really, if you're a TI fan and like what he does, he's stayed pretty consistent for 20 years which is something that can't be said for CD era Ye or 05-08 Mixtape Weezy
In the tier of rap that we're discussing you're either gonna get to a certain level and mellow out as a legend and stay in your lane and be Ross, Pusha, TI or you're gonna extend yourself to other audiences and potentially lose your way like Wayne and Kanye did and Drake may be in the midst of doing since 2016.
TI ain't had an interesting album since Paper Trail so stop it.
Ye has expanded beyond music but still manages to be relevant regardless of how his music is perceived on a critical.level.
Tip expandedbut musically no one cares yet he continues to put out release after release.
Wayne fell off too but his music still demands attention and his highs were way higher then Tips.
He having his Paul Pierce moment where he looking around and not seeing the same love other oldies getting
Was competing well with them back in mid-late 2000's, but that legacy hasn't been as impactful as any of those guys at all.
He's right but he's not gon get it because he doesn't have that layer of mainstream 30something white acceptance to their music the way Ye has songs like Stronger/Gold Digger, Wayne has Lollipop/A Milli/etc. era and beyond and Jay-Z being the rapper even your grandma knows for the past 15-20 years.
And subconsciously that's why everyone in here is clowning him
Every other category (cultural/chart hits, 10-20+ years in the game, deep back catalog quality wise, etc.) he hits.
I’d argue T.I had more crossover poppy songs than Ye, Jay, an Wayne tbh
when did ye fell of in your opinion?
When fashion became as big or bigger of a focus to him than the music combined with that Yeezus effortless do a project in a month and scrap it style of music becoming the main way he did things
so 2014-2015 and probably 2013 with the Nike stuff making fashion his main focus and birthing Yeezus although I liked it
to be fair Kanye stayed great for about 12-13 years (15 if you wanna count his production pre CD). Even now, as bad as JIK and Ye are, he still has some dope moments like production on Daytona, KSG, songs like Ghost Town or Wash us in the blood. I would say Kanye is far better right now than Wayne is and he still making better music than TI does at points.
TI just boring now but hes definitely not offensively bad by any means.
Yeah JIK and KSG still have great moments
But another factor here is Ye having a writing team (and still sucking at times) and TI presumably writing his own s***
I’d argue T.I had more crossover poppy songs than Ye, Jay, an Wayne tbh
only real crossover poppy songs he had were Paper Trail era and that was jus Whatever You like, dead and gone, and live your life tbh
theres guest feats on my love but kanye, jay and wayne have done so many more guest feats on pop artists tracks than ti
I wasn’t. But exclusively albums TI has a stronger discog than Wayne imo
This is valid and ion even f*** w TI
nope
Never thought about it but has any young rapper ever listed ti as a favorite or inspiration ? I feel like having a TV show and getting closer to Eminem than any other rapper hurt how people look at him
Yeah JIK and KSG still have great moments

yeah but Ye has always had a writing team
if anything its probably more fair to say that part of why his raps have fallen off is because hes starting to want to write his own raps more than usual where he had rhymefest, cons, talib, common, etc. helping him with his raps. That and I think he dont spend as much time writing as he used to
KSG he spent a year on those verses and they were easily the best raps hes had since Pablo era. Legit had LR/Grad vibes at times with his verses.

But both Ye and Wayne are interesting and anticipated off of moments they've had literally a decade ago at this point
We were all 8-10 years old when they had or began their golden runs and we still just tune in off of that strength
TI went to prison when he was right there with them and potentially with BoB/Yung LA/futuristic era could have achieved the same thing Wayne and Kanye achieved with Cudi/808s/Big Sean/Rebirth/Drake/Nicki/etc: becoming more than just DJ Drama mixtapes and the college bear brand/perception-wise.
By the time TIP comes home he already is at a disadvantage bc he is an aging street rapper who can't really still run with that gimmick realistically after his legal troubles and also ages himself with the reality show.
If we just talk the music quality he stacks up but when you get into the other s*** it's a lot of other factors.

It's about legacy at this point and Tips music career hasn't fared well.
People he respects less, like 50, hold more weight in the public eye then he does at this point.
He has his own podcast. That just shows hes making money damn near everywhere but music.
Tip wants his flowers but hes gonna need a 4:44 type album to get em and I dont think he can do it on the mic anymore. Hes servicable but the gap between his tv persona and the character he cultivates in his music makes it hard to buy into TI the MC in 2020.
nope!
I actually like T.I. vs TIP more then King and Paper Trail but thats just my opinion.
But what makes king a classic?
Cause he dropped it when ATL dropped so the buzz was really high?
What are the classic songs?
I like Top Back and What You Know but nothing else really stood the test of time
Song with UGK forgot the name
Live in the sky
Im straight
Why you wanna do that
Top back
What you know
Those songs stood out on the album.

His music quality is lower tier at this point. His last 4 albums have been weak as f***. That's 4 whole albums!
Hes a regional act with national exposure. No one outside of GA fux with his music at this point.
