when we all have same access to same streaming services thats a non factor (new music)

i remember putting CDs on hold waiting weeks for it to be available from the library and ripping them for the music files just to sync them them on my ipod nano

now i just pay 5 bucks a month to listen to Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde (older music in general) on demand and have it DL on my phone

Same here, but to be honest these tik tok songs are just bad bro lol

I know I’m old bc I hear these songs and think “Damn so they just gon ruin a classic like that”

They barely touched the sample. It's these r&b niggas who be jacking whole melodies that's lame.

That's probably your only gateway into this stuff, I got a younger brother born in 1996 but he's about to be 25 so he's just as out of touch as me too

    one gateway leads into another

the internet is a huge gateway into a lot of information and communities personally i find it difficult to be ignorant of any piece of information when its available at the click of a button hence the phrase 'u learn something new everyday'

ive been utilizing it since a kid ytmnd, ebaumsworld, runescape, adventure quest days lol

True, the best way to find underground rappers is through spotify related artists though

That's how I find new music

i mean we all have access to the same internet

especially rn when most have smartphones

and now many requiring to be on a pc/laptop for remote learning

you shouldnt feel old Because theres no longer the disconnect, u should be glad the kids are catching up to speed and be able to
    participate in these convos

That's not the part about it that makes me feel old, it's way more nuanced than that.

I'm bout to go on a whole long winded stream of consciousness whatever so please bare with me. Do you remember that era of television when Cartoon Network started experimenting with live-action? They had a block dedicated to it, they called it "CN Real"

It happened around 2010, so I was already a Junior in highschool when this started and was literally a year before shows like "Adventure Time" brought about the "Animation Renaissance" of 2011 and saved Cartoon Network.

Anyways, one of the shows that came from that block was "gamer-centric" show called "Level Up"

I ended up finding out years later from a animation YouTuber who made a whole retrospective on the live-action block that comedian Eric Andre (yes, THAT one) played the villain in the made-for-tv movie pilot.

So naturally, me being curious, I wanted to see what Eric Andre acting in a crappy live action kids show looked like, so I went looking for clips on YouTube. I couldn't find any, but what I DID discover was equally as interesting in its own way.

I basically came across a whole microcosm "tribute" videos, or essentially the equivalent of an AMV or Fancams for certain characters of the show, some of them uploaded as recently as 8 years ago.

And when I scrolled down to the comments on these, it was filled with post that read something to the affect of "I'm 11 and I miss when Cartoon Network used to be this good" or "Back when Cartoon Network used to make good shows"

I'm not kidding, their are now a generation of young adults who view stuff like this as "nostalgic" the same way the generation before them would be with shows like, I don't know, Doug or Rocket Power?

The point is, THOSE kids are now in their late teens and early 20s and they are on Tik Tok, and the type of content posted on there reflects that.

tbh i dont really get what u mean but i kind of do but i rlly dont

in this decade we'll have late teens and young adults claiming nostalgia for xo tour life and some popular netflix show like 13 reasons why

the cycle is just getting shorter because of access to on demand media and information so eventually we will all be on the same page
